i just needed to ask you guys something,
if there was a boxer who held say four world titles at his weight class
just for arguments sake the WBC, WBA, WBO, the RING,
    (at lets say light welterweight)
would you guys consider it fair for him to move up a weight class and get a shot at a champion in that weight class who holds lets say the WBC world title over other fighters who are ranked 1 and 2 respectively in the WBC rankings?

I think he deserves a crack at the heavyweight title on a technicality.

For the sake of boxing - we need a heavyweight champ who can actually put asses on seats.

Where as i am all for order over chaos and people earning their chance rather than being handed it, i do think if you are undisputed champion or have at least cleared out your division but may have gave up a belt or two because your mandatory was an underserving opponent, then yes i would be ok with that fighter moving up and immediately challenging that higher weights champ.

It's when a guy has just one belt in a weight and moves up and gets an immediate title shot that i dont like.

Saying that though, the jump from CW to HW is the biggest and hardest in boxing so i think a few fights would be best before challenging the best in the division.

Im not saying Haye doesn't deserve his chance and it is a refreshing change to get an exciting HW like Haye...i just think it would have been better for Haye to acclimatise to the HW division before taking on the Klits.

Still, fair play to the guy. He's a brave, gutsy guy which can only be good for the sport.

We've been over this unfortunately before, and I agree with you whole heartedly. ANY other divisions and this is common place all the time. Seems to be a "******ed" idea in HW though.

Your forgetting that Haye was lineal, ring magazine, WBO, WBC and WBA champ at cruiser which makes his situation a little different and justifies an immediate shot at the HW title.

Floyed Mayweather did the same thing when he moved up to giht Castillo.
