BEST victory to date: Joe Murray got the better of David Chianelli last week Levenshulme's Joe Murray insists he is ready to fight for a title after blasting away David Chianelli. The 2008 Olympian produced one of his best performances to date as he extended his unbeaten run to nine on the same bill. "I went in against someone who had been in with champions and won convincingly," said Murray. "It wasnt just the win, but the way I won. I was picking off my shots accurately. It was probably my best performance yet. "I think Im ready for a title shot now. Thats nine unbeaten so Id like to make it 10 for the title." Murray simply had too much for the Italian, who had lasted 12 rounds with Paul Hyland when challenging for the vacant EU super-bantamweight title in March. After pummelling the 37-year-old with powerful combinations in the first round, he wasted little time finishing him off in the second. It was Murrays fifth stoppage in his last six fights, showing how much he has matured since turning pro last year. "A lot of people used to say I didnt have any power, but my record speaks for itself," said the 23-year-old. "In my first few fights I was up against journeymen who dont really come at you. But since Ive started fighting people who are opening up, looking to hit you as well, youve seen my finishing power. "Im getting better all the time and Im feeling stronger and stronger. When I first turned pro I was making some amateurish mistakes, diving in. But now Im taking my time and making the most of my chances. "I cant wait to go for a title. Ive not decided yet what weight Im most comfortable at, super-bantam or featherweight. Ill see what opportunities there are." Murrays performances are putting increasing pressure on promoter, Ricky Hatton, to get him a title shot in 2011. The manner in which he disposed of Chianella and Richard Szebeledi before him is evidence enough of his growing confidence in the ring. Trainer Joe Gallagher said: "He impresses every time he gets in that ring. Hes been given a lot testing fights for someone at this stage of his career, but he keeps coming through them. "He was against a quality opponent. Chianella went all the way with Paul Hyland, so were not talking about a journeyman. "Joes the forgotten Olympian, but if he carries on like this everyone is going to know him."

i havent seen murray fight but ill have a look soon.what kind of a style does he have and how far do you all think he can go?
murrey's got lovely footwork and picks his punch's well. dont feel he has enough pop tho but can be worked on, he'll at least get the euro imo
He needs hard fights now. I saw lil clip of that last fight and as Lp said he doesn't seem to have that pop in right hand. I like his in and out movement and way he lands his shots and works head and body but there's a few parts of his game such as power and way he lifts chin as he throws which worry me. I see him as more of accumulation man, not one punch power but wears down with good effective pressure. He thinks about his work which i like. Talented boy....be great to see him in with a stern test.
great talent is murray, flown under the radar a bit but has been on sky a few times, very impressive, who is english champion at featherweight?
both Murray brothers are great talents, John should of had some big fights by now but Joe seems to be brought along at the right level and slowly stepping up, both determined fighters and credit must be given to Joe G for all the effort he has put in with the boys
