In a way, yes. No one ever outfought him. He potentially could be outboxed, but no one could outfight him.

Well that makes a nice change from his rabid fans never shutting up about him during his career. Had I been of legal age & had the money, I’d have purchased a house on the back of my winnings from the Hopkins fight. I admit I didn’t see it being so one-sided, but I had zero doubt the little fraud would get shown up that night.

He went from being absurdly overrated (i.e.: people thinking he could move up & beat RJJ) to probably being underrated today.

Very underrated. Great fighter. Sure, he didn’t do a lot of different things in the ring but he was deadly accurate, put great pressure on, had great eyes and knew when to attack. Great power in both hands, one of the best left hooks ever and a great straight right. Finishing was top class too and had a ton of heart. He was very hardworking and clean living too, never strayed away from that. Always remained humble and listened to his father.

Accomplishment-wise, unified two HOT divisions, only met defeat when he fought the much larger and great Hopkins for all the marbles. Until then, unified two divisions, made 15 defenses of a title and with the exception of the Oscar fight which was close, no other fight was remotely close: In fact, he tended to brutally beat opponents to the point they were never the same again. I think the run he went on from 1999-2001 his opponent’s beaten had a combined record or something like 210-5 or something. There’s something to be said for his level of consistency and dominance.

You can’t afford to live any way but clean when you’re that limited. He was a puppet for his father’s ambitions, a slave, really. To hear him talk proudly of absolute obedience was almost embarrassing.

Nah. I know him. Spent time with him & his dad. He really admired his dad and wanted badly to be a boxer from seeing his dad do it. He was raised very well and took the sport seriously. He wasn’t forced into it. I wouldn’t say he was that limited either, we aren’t talking Wilder. He was a wrecking machine and could take you out from any direction. His dad is a very friendly and humble person too. Very quiet and doesn’t seek the limelight just guided and guarded his son very well.

Ask him why he showed Naseem Hamed levels of heart once he was (officially) beaten. First time he had to come back from adversity we essentially never saw him again.

Never a great fighter. Limited, lucky, & a flat-track bully of the highest order.

What does that even mean ?

BHop outboxed him and certainly outfought him.

It's still a mystery to me why anyone thought Tito could beat Bernard.

    Unified two divisions ?

He got one of boxing's alltime gets in the first of those 'unifications.'

And it appears he had been some dodgy wrapping moves that Bernard team made him drop.

Tito a very good boxer and amassed a fine record. He was very likeable, more so than either of Oscar or Bernard, but he wasn't as good as either one. And I think he pretty much gets his dues on here.

The wraps is a big nothing. He simply used a method that applies tape, gauze, tape, gauze. Only in NJ/NY do they require special permission (which is normally given) from the other corner. Canelo, De La Hoya are others who’ve been asked to re-wrap for the same. Billy Costello’s team required a re-wrap for Arguello once for the same thing. Mind games more than anything. Nacho Beristain at that time said that’s how he wraps all his fighters hands. So there’s nothing really dodgy about it at all.

Yes, he unified titles in two divisions. He beat the consensus #1 & 2 fighters and in the case of each won the 1 vs. 2 battle.

    He did NOT beat Delahoya.

He got the decision but he lost at least seven rounds, more likely eight and maybe even nine.

I considered mentioning the same. Hopkins in every way dismantled him, including winning the exchanges.

& in twenty five years, I’ve yet to find seven rounds he won against De La Hoya. Jerry Roth scoring three of the first four rounds in Trinidad’s favour tells you all you need to know.
