Oscar avoided battle in the last few rounds because he,and his corner were convinced he was well in front.

    Tito was a monster.

That left hook is a joke. It's like Fosters. It only takes one.

He had a documented detached retina in round 11 from the punishment Trinidad was inflicting towards him and retired less than a year after due to his eye problems. His eye sagged like that due to an injury suffered by Daniel Santos in the Pan American games in 95. He still won gold in 96 and captured a world title in 99. It was the detached retina in his fight vs Trinidad in round 11 which ultimately caused his retirement from boxing. Wtf is so hard to understand about this?

I can't find it but It was in an interview leading up to his faux fight with some MMA fighter that Oscar admitted that Trinidad is an extremely hard puncher and he thought he had the fight in the bag and didn't engage the last 3 rounds due to Trinidad's reputation for late knockouts.

Trinidad even has the better jab here and a significant height advantage. Tito's hooks and uppercuts were thrown with fluid abandon but nice technique. Pacquiao would be rendered helpless.

Moving the goal posts, are we? You said Reid caused the eyelid injury.

    1. Reid had progressive ptosis. It’s why his career was rushed and a major factor in his retirement. Tito didn’t cause that.
    2. A retinal detachment isn’t progressive. It’s repaired and that’s generally it. He passed physicals and fought like four more times. He looked like dog**** in his last fight which isn’t what an RD would do. Furthermore, an RD is generally caused by incidental contact such as thumbing and isn’t something we should be in awe at Tito over. Basketball players get RDs.
    3. Reid had/has major depression to the point of being disabled. Could’ve been related to a lifetime of boxing, but Tito isn’t responsible for that.

And none of this has anything to do with how Reid dropped Tito and was beating him at he halfway point of their fight. Tito struggled.

Dude, you've literally ignored everything else and moved the goal post to David Reid's eye instead of the original subject, the irony in your statement is too extreme to take seriously. Yes, I said eyelid instead of eye, I'm not gonna detract from the subject and write a dozen posts defending it. Yes, David Reid had an eye problem in 95 and developed Ptosis, that's why his eye sagged I've said this. From 95 through 00 Reid has fought world class opposition pro and amateur and won Olympic gold and a major world title inbetween. He was a confident, undefeated medalist and a champion, boxing experts were comparing him to Roy Jones at the time. He had big money fights lined up with the other champions from 147-154 and Trinidad so happened to be first in line. You're acting as if Reid was packing up his bags and already calling it quits before the Trinidad bout, he was the bigger man and defending champion on his way to p4p stardom. He got the beating of his lifetime in the Trinidad bout and suffered another eye injury in the process. He looked like dog **** in his last couple of fights and retired less than a year after Trinidad because he left a piece of himself in that ring and gave it his all that night and was never the same mentally and physically. It's happened in boxing numerous times.

That being said Trinidad still beats Pac up. Couple chunky left hooks and it's nights out.

Lol no. Reid was an underdog v. Tito and had looked spotty before that, such as his fight w. the Aussie nobody named Kelly. This wasnt his perceived stepping stone to greatness. He was being rushed along because of his eyelid, which Tito is not responsible for. He never looked like a mature pro and never was one.

Well yeah, Trinidad was seen as the p4p number 1 or 2 fighter at the time, he wasn't seen as an underdog to anyone, not even in the Hopkins bout. His hype was so big that Don King was gonna match him with Roy Jones if Trinidad so happened to win the MW unification tournament. But yeah, Reid had an off night vs Kevin Kelly in his first title defense but made it up a month later against Mullings in HBO after dark where he looked sensational. I've followed Reid's career closely and watched most of his fights, the man was a special fighter he looked and reminded me of Roy Jones more than anyone else. He had fast hands, power and heart. I've already said for the billionth time his drooping eyelid was caused by an eye accident back in 95. He put up an excellent fight vs Trinidad, I had him winning the 1st 5 rounds and he scored a flash KD and Trinidad was also deducted a point for a low blow. Any other fighter would of crashed under such adversity but all it takes is 1 hook from Trinidad to change the course of a fight. The prolonged beating Trinidad gave Reid in the 11th ended his career, his corner should of stopped it then and there but the damage was already done.

He didn’t look sensational against Mullings. He ran around the ring, threw some flurries and won like 8-4 without ever hurting Mullings. Actually, Reid never looked sensational other than against scrubs on the way up. He was maybe Prograis tier but not even Thurman level.

This is my last word on this and then I’m out.

You’ve got great fighters like Mayweather. Mayweather beat other great fighters and made it look easy. He never lost.

You’ve got great fighters like Pacquiao. He didn’t win every time against other greats, but he still mashed out Cotto, Barrera, Morales (II) and others.

And then you’ve got great fighters like Tito. Tito got dominated by other greats like Hopkins and Winky, struggled badly (deserved an L) against Oscar, and didn’t even look all that great against Whitaker. Tito was a lower tier great.

Therefore, Pac probably would beat him. And, to tell the truth, I’m a bigger Tito fan than I am Pac fan.

The biggest NO NO in boxing. You simply can't leave it up to the judges.

I watched that fight live on HBO after dark, he won nearly every round but whatever

Styles make fights. Mayweather, Winky Wright, Bernard Hopkins or featherweights like Morales or Barrera have nothing to do with this conversation, David Reid doesn't even have anything to do with this convo. We're talking about Trinidad vs Pacquaio at 147 and Trinidad knocks him out.
