Trinidad was a great fighter, but was really one demensional. His game consisted of stalking and head hunting. He wasn't technically skilled enough to imply a jab except in fights early in his career against lesser opponents. Trinidad would probably win though, given how much of a beast he was at 147 but as I said, Trinidad has problems with jabs. Even with the height advantage, he would still be somewhat troubled by it. Especially since he would be coming foward and looking to plant his feet. He also showed a tendancy against Larry Barnes (A very short fighter) to bend down a bit providing a much easier jab target.
All I keep thinking about his Torres... who looked like a cheap version of Tito pounding away at Cotto. I could see Cotto hurting Tito early, maybe even dropping him... but Tito would end up hurting Cotto, and finishing him.
Tito by KO, This is a bad matchup for Cotto, Tito is Kryptonite for fighters that come straight at him.
Cotto however is showing the ability to fight off the back foot while still dealing out damage. If his chin continues to look good at 147, then we should revisit this matchup. Especially if he remains unbeaten.
i cant see cotto winning this at all... someone else said he has a better defence then vargas, but the way his style is he is head first into the onslaught, vargas is much better (probably because hes bigger) at jabbing, circling, and using his footwork with elusive ability and keeps out of range when not on the attack. cotto stays crouched with his head in the fire a lot. Cotto imo is an all around better fighter but titos power is more then the equalizer, and cotto would be one punch away from stoppage the whole time, i say Tito stops him in 8 or so.
This fight may go a bit like Tito's fight with Vargas, yet even closer. In the end the result is the same . Trinidad by late ko.
