If I could have 3 boxers back it would be Prime Roy Jones, Prime Tito Trinidad and Prime Mike Tyson :deal
I hear top 15 but I see Tito head to head at welter blastng at least 10 if not more of those fifteen ....and I dont know what names are on the list of 15 please some names!!!!!!! Tito is a top 5 welter period.
Robinson, Leonard, Gavilan, Napoles, Burley, Armstrong, Griffith, Walcott, Rodriguez, and Basilio should be above him for what they did at welter. Their resumes are clearly superior. H2H I'd probably favor them all over Tito except Armstrong because of the size difference, he has a good shot at Basilio too but I would not favor him. Then there is Hearns, Walker, Britton, and a few others that could be argued over Tito when taking into account accomplishments and H2H.
I never try and match all boxers up on a list. That doesn't make sense. But if you look at it in a generational sense then lists do make sense. Tito was probably number one or number two welterweight of his generation. The number depends on whether you place him above hoya or below. But either way he's one of the ATG's of his generation.
Tito is my favorite fighter of all time. He never backed down from any one and until after the Mayorga fight ALWAYS put on a show.
Man I will miss Tito I really hope those days could comeback. A fighter that never ducked anybody and always went for the best out there regardless of the risk. Sadly that that trend is disappearing in today's fighters.
Sadly those days can't comeback. I'm still waiting for someone even remotely close to Tito to arrive on the scene. Something tells me I'll be waiting a long time. Those were the days of the boxer puncher. The world split between Tito's left hook and Oscar's left hook. :good
If he can somehow get Mayweather in the ring and beat him then unify all the belts then I'm sure he is a lock for a position in the Top 5 ATG at Welterweight. For him to become the best of all time at 147 is quite a tall order and would require something spectacular like defeating every Ring ranked top welterweight and hold all four belts for many consecutive defenses for starters. Trinidad has a very good resume at Welter and I can definitely see him as a Top 10 ATG at 147 with his past accomplishments.
At the risk of sounding like a hater: Roy Jones: Humiliated Tito, stood on the ropes catching and countering like he was fighting an amateur. An ANCIENT Roy did this. Winky Wright @ 160 - Destroyed Tito Bernard Hopkins @ 160 - Destroyed Tito Ricardo Mayorga @ 160 - Made a ww Mayorga move up to fight him, and beating Ricardo is no huge achievement even at his correct weight. Pernell Whitaker - Pernell was cracked out and done. Oscar De La Hoya - Tito lost this fight. Clearly. David Reid - Nut punch. Fernando Vargas - Multiple nut punches from Cheato Yuri Boy Campas - Yori is long exposed as nothing special Macho Camacho - Runner, light puncher, not worth a **** since Rosario Oba Carr - nice win Maurice Blocker - nice win Tito, imho is a great fighter but a seriously tainted one. The glove controversy, plus it's questionable whether he survives against Reid or Vargas with cheatoing them when he got hurt. DLH totally dominated him and gave him a boxing lesson, one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. I would watch Tito fight anytime but I have serious reservations about his greatness. I think he would knock out just about anyone who wants to stand and trade punches with him, but it is what it is with him. There are questions.
