Im not and never will write off Hatton as I know what he can produce BUT personally I want him to retire. I need he has done all he can in boxing, he has proved he is a very good boxer, dominated his division for years and won the hearts of boxing fans, made too much money and has his own promotional thing going, plus his new gym opened in Hyde, Why carry on fighting? If he isn't good enough to beat the elite fighters then what he has got to prove? He isn't the Hatton of the Kosta fight, can no longer take the punishment anymore And Im a massive fan or Manny Pac and Mayweather suprisingly enough. Even tho they both beat Hatton I think there both massive personalities and I love Mayweathers arrogance
i seriously thought i would be hearing names like martin lindsay, kell brook, paul appelby, darren barker, kevin mitchell instead i get david haye, who wants to retire at 30 in a few years and carl froch who has already established himself as a top fighter anyway, gotta look beyond the elite becuase in a few years i suspect lindsay and appelby fighting again for a world title in a few years
Oh yeah without doubt, the British scene is really good at the moment. Jamie Moore is someone that everyone should keep an eye on, in his last 3 or 4 fight's he's looked like a total beast and approaching world class. I didn't see the Roman Dzuman fight, but a friend who saw it said that Mooresy was absolutely brutal. I wouldn't pick Moore against Paul Williams, or Vernon Forrest and James Kirkland for that matter, but there's not many other people who can beat him at 154lbs. Plus, he's been in some incredible fights over the last few years, especially the war with Matthew Macklin, so he's always worth watching. David Haye and Carl Froch are two really entertaining fighters, they may not be the best fighters in the world in their respective division, but they're amongst the most exciting in the world. Froch's fight against Taylor was epic, real bravery on display, and nearly every fight David Haye has ever had has been edge-of-your seat action. Outisde of that there's not really many out there. Junior Witter and Clinton Woods are all-but retired, and even if they were sticking around they wouldn't achieve anything special. There's Amir Khan of course, but it'll take a few years of hard graft and toughening up before he's truly world class. Hopefully his punch resistance will improve with time, because his skills are elite. Martin Lindsay is a good featherweight, but I doubt he'll ever be able to compete with the elite, and Martin Rogan is an exciting, durable, heavyweight but not someone who'll ever bother the top 10. Ola Afolabi is a really good fighter, but I'm not sure if he counts as british. That's about it really, until the Olympic crop like Frankie Gavin, Tony Jeffries, David Price and James DeGale start to come of age.
Thats fair enough and yes he's got nothing more to prove his losses came up against two excellent boxers. BTW What did u go as to walsall, my mates went as postman pat, dennis the menace a bannana and a hotdog.
Tbh mate I really don;t know much about the young uns, altho Ive been keeping an eye on Frankie Gavin who does seem like a good prospect. Not so keen on DeGale tho
Danny LOL I remember you saying this in a another thread.... here is the quote. HMMMMM... Care to comment?
as boxing in general I like boxers from all nationalities, but as my favourite boxer I go for someone who I can relate to, like Hatton only lives 10 minutes down the road from me, and you live all the type on the local radios and follow there career very easily as he only fights down the road at the MEN arena
To a degree I can relate to that as Philly Phighters are usually the ones I cheer for, even when they would not othwerwise be on my list. But in recent years hatton and Cotto have been my 2 favorites. I will continue to cheer for Philly Phighters, but also be open to others who come along. I guess Cotto, Mosley, Pac will top my list. I will miss hatton and the excitment he and his fans brought to the sport (IMO anyway)...I personally hope he retire, but could understand if he wanted to close out his carear in the UK with a farewell type fight (DLH, Witter or Kahn would make a nce fight to hopefully end on a positive note.) I could understand that. I just hope he does not try and stay around...I don't think anything good can come of that!
ahh yea i know what you mean but its still going to take a few yers for de gale , gavin, saunders jeffries to reach elite when they only had 1 and 2 fights (jeffries) respecitvely, i disagree on the martin lindsay i belive he is a greatfighter been nurtured, even martin rogan is old cant remeber his name but did he turn pro at 35 or somet, i watched the moore fight and he was impressive needs to quit his job and stick to boxing full time though, kell brook is start to develop good and will soon prosper into something good we will see about great, but the way people talk on here you would belive there is no commonwealth or european belts
haha why not de gale , i thought he shows a lot of promise he dismantaled a guy who just decided to defend for the entire fight he still has a amature fighting style where as gavin and saunders have this come forward hatton style where de gale is more ring savy and mayweather like that maybe why you like and dislike them :good
