It has to be somebody with comparable speed, excellent stamina, decent power, excellent ring generalship, a good jab, and very strong in the mind. They better throw straight punches too because wide looping shots get countered all day.

 

the best chance is a long fighter such as a Cotto who posesses a good solid jab and has a good work rate...all that Cotto is.....i believe Cotto and Williams present the best chances because of their lenght and sheer work rate but it still would be tough task as Floyd is extremely good at negating his opponents strengths and upping his strentghs while making his weaknesses not a factor.....its all a mental thing as far as thinkg and adjusting on the go.....thats another thing...fighters who fight floyd have go to be able to adjust o him on the go...you dont want to come in with a gameplan for Floyd because he will figure it out and then now you have to change it most the time it causes confusion and while you try to figure him out its already to late has found his rhthym and is all over you preventing you from adjusting....look at most of his fights at higher weights thats what he is doing adjusting to the fighter then finding his rhthym and then they can't adjust...even Oscar....he presented a solid jab then he got figured out and he didnt adjust and Floyd poured it on winning the late rounds easily.

A tall, lanky southpaw, with a good snappy jab and excellent workrate.

I dont know if thats Paul Williams or not, because Ive only seem him fight Margarito, but from what Im told he fits the template.

 

What do you care, after PBF has skooled England's finest Hatton:roll: you will shun what goes on in that weight-class!

..and it's not like you are going to buy a PBF/Cotto PPV seeing as neither is British (in any case Patriotic Sky probably won't show it).

Tell me again, how many of Roy Jone's great fights did they telvise after the Toney fight?....you know that only in the last couple of years (other than a couple of brief moments with Lewis/Naz) have Sky started to pay attention back to the Mecca of Boxing:deal

 

exactly, they've got their act together, i never said they were perfect, but with them and setanta now upping the stakes as far as rights go things are looking pretty sweet.

 

Hatton has a better chance than Margarito. It's almost too bad Floyd and Margarito never fought just because it would have been a massacre and put to rest doubts of people who can't see the disparity between the two.

Hatton actually has a shot in this fight because if he can maul Floyd and land ruthless body shots, all while having the desire and determination to walk through peppering shots that bloody him up, he could pull it off.

Cotto also has a good shot because of his willingness to take anything he has to in order to get close and lands his shots. Cotto, like Hatton, punches for the body, which is key when fighting Floyd. Headhunting is a surefire way to lose the fight.

Weekness in the style is one thing, getting the first loss is another. Boxing's biggest upsets rarely came from very competable fighters in terms of equel speed, power, punch output, physical advantage etc. It's more like a matter of style of the opponent, an off-night for the star and and some move nobody had used before. Frazier, Norton, Douglas, Rahman, Barrera, Pacquiao etc. found their way to win against Ali, Lewis, Hamed, Barrera, and at the time they were credited with less chance than the reality was on the day of the fight. Sometimes you can’t see the upset coming.

Floyd, with almost not visible power (having sore hands), fighting at a higher weight than his natural (his weight in the fight day is a good indication where he should belong - light welterweigh) and pretty low (but of course very effective) punch output is certanly a beatable fighter like anyone else. But is there anyone who can actually beat him? The most important thing in the Oscar fight for me was to see how easily De La Hoya could controll the fight and win a round when he decided to use his jab. Another thing was the big pressure, especially at the corners, where Oscar could break down a little bit Floyd style and neutralized his speed.

I think Floyd won the Oscar fight with 2 points but Oscar showed some evidence of Floyd weaknesses. Now the smaller and technically/physically less talented Hatton won't jab his way through the 12 rounds to win, but with his almost unhuman stamina, great punch output and greath pressure style, he can give troubles to Floyd. There is no way that anyone can defeat Mayweather in a boxing match, but there are ways to neutralize his speed and defense - just see how Cotto did that aganist an aging but still pretty quick Mosley or the super slick Malignaggi. And see how Calzaghe outhussled a very game, younger and bigger Kessler. Pressure, pressure, pressure and HUGE punch output - if someone can convince the judges with that, Floyd can be defeated in a close fight.

Hatton is far more bigger threat to Floyd than De La Hoya in my opinion, because he will be on his a** for 12 hard rounds with 100% stamina and a lot of huge punches. De La Hoya couln't outbox Floyd, but for 5 rounds he could outhussle him, and at time he could win a round using only his jab. So at least in theory, a Hatton or Cotto-type pressure fighter, and a Winky-like great jabber can give Floyd troubles. Paul Williams is less talented than Floyd, but he is very fast and punches hard and many enough to win rounds in my book, and he and Winky with their size and jab can bring something Mayweather can't figure out.

Before the Hopkins fight I said Winky could be the one to beat Floyd. Now that fight is far from reality, and Winky has to proove that he is still the quick jabber he showed us a few years ago agains Mosley. I would only pick him to defeat Floyd today, but the upsets, like I said, are usually coming like a surprise. I wouldn't be surprised if a great pressure figher or a guy with a huge punch output and a pretty good jab defeated Mayweather. And there are a lot of them today. Hopefully Mayweather stays in the game to see him tested to the limit or to see him proove us wrong. I don’t smell upset, but Hatton is one of those who could pull it off.
