I know there's a few on here. How do you do it? How do you make ends meat? I've been doing it for almost a year now and have had some success (printed in The Scotsman, various websites) have met the likes of Alex Arthur, interviewed Junior Witter etc. But I'm struggling to make ends meat with the costs involved. Travel, calls etc. With a son to raise too and working 48 hours a week in my paying job, it's tough. Financially it's a no-brainer I shoul jack it in.

Most of the web boxing writers, tu, are "contributors" Translation: They get zip, save for a byline.

Unless you're a marque name like Borges or Howser -- as you've learned -- there's precious little money. It's for a young guy -- with few expenses and a job -- who's a boxing junkie, with aspirations to be a writer, honing his craft.

i pretty much started with esb. mailed in a few articles, then they reposted some of the stuff i posted on the local boxing website. then i got an offer to write for another website, this time with pay so i took it.

basically, i dont think being a full time boxing writer will pay all your bills unless you have a daily/weekly spot in a newspaper. i'm basically doing it for fun and because i really love the sport the money is just bonus for me. i write my articles in my breaks from my day job

Apologies for spelling and grammar but it was typed at a hundred miles an hour. If my boss had caught me I'd have been in ****.

I do want it. But I've got an 8-month old boy who takes up all my time after I come home from work at 6.30pm having started at 7.15am. What I'm trying to say is that finding the time combined with looking after my boy, eating, sleeping and everything else is a bit tricky, y'know?

Cheers for that mate. What site do you write for, pm me if you don't mind. I wrote for esb last year. Got quite a few articles published. Have since written for various other sites inlcuding a magazine website and have been printed in a newspaper. I know I've got the ability. Just trying to find the time is hard.

I've wrote a little for this website and just enjoy doing it despite no pay. It's like posting on here, except I go more in-depth about it.

I'm a freelance writer and when I told my dad, who is also, about my plan to write for a living he gave me great advice: "Make sure you remember how to tend bar."

Knowledge of roofing and basic carpentry have helped me make my bills too.

I agree with the poster above who said it's tough to make a living just writing about boxing. I've published on this site and a couple others, but I am not making enough by writing about boxing to give up the proofreading and occasional manual labor gigs I need that pay my bills.

All sounds posts fellas. I sincerely appreciate it. Just need my head sorted out a bit that's all. Sometimes a neutral point of view is the kick up the ass I need y'know?

Anyway, got my Junior Witter piece published on a well respected British site tonight. Getting your work up is always a buzz.
