I just watched Povetkin/Byrd. Povetkin did a great job, but from what I saw, he will never be able to get close enough to do any damage to Klitschko. Klitschko will be able to stay at a safe distance and tee off all night. Discuss.

Well, my best explanation is you saw Sasha in his 14th pro fight against an extremely experienced and slippery fighter who's his own size; so he had no reason to get on Byrd's chest; he could maintain a different kind of range. He can be quite aggressive and I think as he continues to get more pro experience will become more impressive-he hasn't been fighting tomato cans like most new pros, he's taking on very serious opposition here. I think with him coming in behind his jab and with head movement, he has a chance to get in on Wlad. And when does Wlad ever really "tee off" anymore? He isn't as offensive as he used to be, still a great jab when he gets it going, but no more blazing 4 or 5 punch combos.

Wald is an offensive power house who has perfected the nuances of clinching, using his legs to stay out of the other guys range, and keeping up a fast pace for 12 rounds. He's simply too good, too fast, and hits to hard. Going the distance with Wlad seems very unlikely and winning on points virtually out of the question as well. Wlad's too good.

Wlad looks like a dominant champion fight now. But how many people could honestly say they saw Wlad losing to Brewster or Sanders before it happened? Very few. At best Sanders and Brewster had the punchers chance. Povetkin doesn't hit as hard as Sanders or Brewster, so his puncher's chance is less. But I think Povetkin has a good chin to hang in there and better skills than either Sanders or Brewster. If Povetkin can survive the first 6 rounds vs Wlad, I'd give him a chance to pull of a mid to late round TKO, as Wlad chin is not great.

Lets not forget that Wlad has looked undestructable before, and was unable to finish fights against Ross Purrity, Corrie Sanders, and Lamon Brewster, hardly hall of fame candidates. He's looking good against the second rate heavyweights of today, and the Brewster he fought the second time in no way resembled the guy who beat him the first time.Any one with some power , stamina, and the heart to walk through a rather considerable offensive gaunlet has a chance to beat Wlad. That may seem to be a lot to ask, but theres really not much around these days that resembles an ATG heavyweight. So far ,Povetkin seems superior to the usual heavyweight prospect of late , so if he continues to develop, its not unlikely that he would poccess the potential to beat a very beatable Wlad somewhere down the road.

wlad seems to rely on his opponents fading and slowing down to maintain a later stoppage of recent. if povetkin can absorb punishment from the opening bell to the 2nd half of the fight without wilting then he stands a reasonable chance of stopping wlad.

Byrd win was very good win to povetkin, but he was little hurt a while (legs was shaky)...so if Byrd can do it imagine what wlad can do..Byrd was ready to fight with Povetkin and didin't affraid his power at all..

Most people said that Byrd was too big of a step up as well.

And how many fighters have stopped Byrd before?

    Exactly.

It can be very easily read as:

    1. Byrd has been slipping ever since McCline/Golota. 2. Waldo actually hasn't improved all that much. 3. Povetkin is good enough to do what Waldo does in his 14th pro fight.

Povetkin imo will beat Waldo. I have no doubt about it. Right style and right composure.

A lot less then povetkin is.

with that being said, Wlad had the style, and size for much improvment. Not sayin Povetkin will not improve, im sure he will, but i just dont think there is as much room. for the most part his size and power

Both Olympic champs are extraordinally skilled, both are natural heavyweights, and all teh advantage that Wlad enjoys in the height/reach/power department is pretty well equalized by the advantage Povetkin enjoys in the head department.

When Wlad gets hit, he panics, when Povetkin gets hits he gets more focused and hits back harder.

That would be an interesting and competitive fight, even right now. More so if Povetkin gets a bit more pro experience.
