Would not be surprised if Ward creates a 171-172 weight class like Canelo has created the 155 pound division.
Kovalev needs Ward for his legacy. Stevenson is an old, overrated fighter. Pascal and Cleverly are just good fighters. Ward and Kovalev might be great. They should fight.
Actually, no its not. Ward CLEARLY has the better resume. Exactly how do you think he got to be #2 on the P4P list? I don't recall Kovalev ever being rated that high. And exactly what "history" is Kovalev writing at 175lbs? How to be the #2 guy in the division?
I didn't see Golovkin mentioned anywhere in this thread... until you brought him up? The OP makes a solid point. Ward has cleared out his division and literally has no-one left to face there. So he needs to go up or stop whining about lack of fights. It's not as if 168 is brimming with good opponents....
The super 6 doesn't mean **** Ward needs to grow some *****, stop living in the past and fight a live body
That has little to do with the QUALITY of whom you faced, more to do with success at that weight. Would Wards opponents have as much success at lightheavy weight than at suppermiddle weight? Jermaine Taylor, a former middleweight was outboxing the living hell out of Froch, before getting knocked out in the 12th round. Arthur Abraham and Froch are considered Wards BEST wins, Arthur Abraham was a semi successful middleweight, who could NOT make the transition to suppermiddle weight well. Froch best wins are Lucian Bute, who everyone on here considers a can crusher. His other notable win was Mikkel Kessler, whose best win was a victory over Froch himself :deal Gabriel Campillo > Arthur Abraham Nathan Cleverly> Mikkel Kessler Bernard Hopkins> Froch Jean Pascal>Edison Miranda Caparello>Sakio Bika
Only in the mind of a GolovIdiot. That logic works BOTH ways, Genius. Would Kovalev's opponents have as much success at super middleweight than at light heavyweight?
After frittering away which should have been a very fruitful part of what up until then had been a very successful career, don't you think he has to prove he's still one of the sports most talented fighters? I do. I think it'd be a shame for the super 6 to be the be all and end all when looking back at Andre's career. There's still time to add some great names to that CV but I'd hope he'd start showing a little bit more urgency after the last couple of years. I mean, Paul Smith at 172? WTF did that do for anyone? He'd no doubt have had much tougher sparring sessions during his time off. Ward vs Kovalev is also an amazing fight for us as fans. Two elite fighters with contrasting styles. Sounds good to me. Although I'd rather that he takes one decent step up at 175 first to acclimatise to the weight. Someone top ten ranked. Oh and I'm happy for the Ward GGG fight to happen. That'd be great too, but likewise I'd want GGG to step up to 168 properly, beat someone decent first. I just fear Ward might have outgrown that division by then if he hasn't already.
Wrong on BOTH accounts. Ward beat Dawson who beat Hopkins Ward beat Froch who beat Pascal who beat Dawson Try doing the math next time...
You must be out of your tiny mind to think that and I think Clev gets given a hard time on these boards.
