    Based on that concept

Would you rate JCC Snr less of an all time Great if you remove some names from his resume ?? A man more or less 100 fights without defeat

Greatness to me is based on body of work , quality of opponent ,effectiveness against various styles , and most important beating all comers ..good or bad ..
With such an extensive resume that JCC has , we know he must have fought a wealth of Bums , but he didnt lose , his skill and professionalism maintained his record

A Bum is a Bum agreed but ..you still gotta beat him

Definition of an ATG : When you gotta flip the pages of the history book to come up with a name that might have beaten him ..instead of picking a current opponent and deeming him capable

My question is if we remove a name or two, without replacement,,... We wouldn't know for sure if he'd or not so its hard to justify,,...

Then there has to be a standard or criteria you use to identify an ATG,,... I want to hear yours,,...

it is simply fighting the best challenges which makes atg's. if a fighter has a fellow atg in his generation then it will make him an atg and his standing in the list higher if he beats him but his being an atg will be diminished if he avoids him. you cannot be an atg if you avoid fights since it will confirm a record of smoke and mirrors.

I find it pretty irrelevent for us to discuss the ATG status of active fighters anyway. The very definition of an ATG is not some concrete number or quality of opponents faced, and never can be - it's whether in a generation or two that fighter is still talked about as one of the greats of the sport.

Our frivolous and transitory opinions which change from one fight to the next aren't gonna be the deciding factor as to how these fighters are going to be regarded in the future - at best we can speculate, but it ain't us that's gonna decide in the end.

I think op's point is, it takes more than 1 great win to be an ATG, which I agree with. All the greats either had a consistent body of work, or have beaten multiple HOF/ATG fighters.

Yes Wladimir Klitschko is based on longevity and consistency. His brother, not so much

To be regarded as an ATG you have to take on the best available opponents
not pick & choose the ones you know you can beat. Then claim you're the best ever.
If Mayweather wants to prove he really is truly TBE ever all he has to do is fight Paquaio on a level playing field. No pillow gloves, no biased refs, use honest judges & no xylocaine. It can be 60/40 that's OK if its 60% to the LEGITIMATE winner of the fight. He doesn't even have to win to get my admiration just step up is all I ask

An ATG that enforce pillow gloves and preserve his health .

I can already see Floyd HOF speech presentation as he's being introduced.

Ladies and gentlemen here's the man who pioneered health come first and brought pillow gloves to boxing, the one and only Floyd Mayweather Jrrrrrrrrrrr:lol:.
