To be fair, is Wilder really as bad as people make him out to be?

    I mean.... he had a draw against Fury and he beat the second most skilled HW in Luis Ortiz at the time. He has great timing, good jab, and elite power. Sure.... he is not Tommy Hearns in the skill department but I would put him in the class as Ron Lyle, Norton, Holmes, Tommy Morrison, Riddick Bowe, and Ray Mercer who were considered elite in their days.

    More than that. He has elite power in both hands. He's like a less-skilled version of tommy hearns.

    He is good but not s good and what his nuthuggers always told us..

    Even his power is not unstoppable as Fury showed..

    Still think he would lose to AJ but they are closer than I thought..

    AJ? I don't think so. I am certainly not implying Wilder is more skilled than any of those three guys.

    He's very one Demensional. He has great timing and is very accurate with the 3 punches he throws so I can understand how people can be fooled.

    Wilder is far from a boxing virtuoso. He has a huge right hand, but he's constantly doing the wrong things with his feet and he falls for the dumbest **** time after time.

    But people were wrong about him having a bad chin. He took immense punishment from Fury before being stopped.

    Let's look at this another way.

    Lots of people on this forum figured that Wilder would be easy pickings for Whyte.

    I'm not the biggest fan of triangulation but let's compare how Whyte fared against Fury vs. Wilder's 3rd Fury fight.

    • Whyte last less than half as long
    • Whyte failed to knock down Fury even once
    • Whyte had no more success trying to outbox Fury than Wilder (both fighters won one round...ignoring, of course, the two rounds Wilder took with knockdowns)
    So, yes, for all his undoubted flaws...I do think Wilder gets a bit of a raw deal with boxing fans.

    I used to be one that said Whyte would give Wilder a run for his money. I was wrong, Wilder blasts Whyte out in 5.
