To be fair, is Wilder really as bad as people make him out to be?

I'm not talking that its impressive that Szpilka was KOd.

I'm talking about the mechanics that went into producing the KO.

It was essentially a counterpunch. The mechanics that delivered it had nothing to do with power... and showed he has more than just power. It wasn't a basic, plod forward throw 3 punches and get a KO like Chisoras, as a comparison.

Anyways... if you don't see that or feel it indicates timing and accuracy, to each their own. Cheers.

Yeah but "set up" your punch depends highly on the level of opposition you are facing. And how many times they will give you the opportunity to do so, and how they will punish you as well.
That was my point, on the other i agree.
It's a pitty though we hadn't had chance to see would he actually managed to stop a quality opposition. Again his resume should have been completely different, both pre his title win and especially his title win.

Wilder isn't nearly as bad as some made him out to be, but obviously a less capable boxer as his size and reach should allow him. The punch bailed him out before the judges could in almost every fight where he got outskilled, so he obviously has that going for him too.
He obviously doesn't belong to history's best heavyweights, but does belong in the could beat everyone on a good day bracket.

He’s blessed with a lot of physical gifts and trains hard year round; That’s about it really. Judging by his amateur career I think he could’ve been a lot more skilled, but he became very reliant on his power. He got far and made his money so everything worked out for him. Really sucks he avoided AJ…

He's not as bad as some say he is but then again he's not as good as some say he is. He's very limited, I mean he was out boxed by Washington and Ortiz twice but always has the equalizer when fighting at a certain level. I guess we will see how good Wilder's power is when and if he faces Ruiz Jr. We know Fury took his best shots and got up, can Ruiz Jr do the same, apart from the Arreola fight he's always shown a good chin.

This, I mean looking at Ruiz's last two fights old Ortiz not as good as old Arreola and Arreola in his prime was basically a hyped gate keeper.

Ortiz will retire with a career best win over Charles Martin in a fight he struggled badly in and a solid win over Jennings, not exactly the resume of a fighter who's deemed one of the most skilled for an era. Reality is Ortiz was a fringe contender and never a top level heavyweight.

    Wilder has power
He lost like 14 of the 16 rounds he shared with Ortiz

I don’t get the Wilder hate. I’m a Fury fan but I give Wilder the highest respect. He has so much heart and lethal power. He’s the third best HW in the world behind Fury and Usyk.

Wilder is possibly the worst heavyweight champion in the last 20-30 years beat no one and the one time he came up against someone with skill he was destroyed
