When it comes down to it ... all the things that Cotto has done to his previous 32 opponents was done to him Saturday night.

Now i'm not a big fan of Margarito ... I wouldn't even consider myself a fan of his at all, but he must get respect when respect is due.

He beat another undefeated guy and took his title in the process and I didn't even see Margarito throw on that WBA strap ... he was rockin the one he won from Cintron.

I'm not going to catapolt Margarito to a status that he doesn't deserve but he sure made a better name for himself Saturday and took advantage of the big moment.

But lets be real guys ... he's not that good and he's not going to be a major force.

He's beatable ... he was beaten by Paul Williams and i'm sure that he will beat him again.

But all b/s aside ... MUCH DESERVED PROPS TO MARGARITO !!

    all comments welcome --

He definately beat Cotto when it would appear Cotto was the **** at welterweight, stopped the rising star if for only right now, but I don't know if Williams will win as easily as last time. Marg corrected his early round performances which is what gave Williams his edge. Now, I do think Williams won that fight clearly but Marg started to rock him in the late rounds and by the end Marg looked to be on top. So, if Marg starts the way he starts nowadays and keeps his pace I can see the fight ending by ko for Marg. Either way it will be very competitive and would swing either direction on a dime.

You can make an argument for Margarito being the #1 WW because he did win 2 welterweight championship straps in 4 months ... but the fact that Paul Williams beat him should give him more clout than Cotto, Margarito, and Mosley.

Mosley lost to Cotto ... Margarito lost to Williams and Cotto lost to Margarito ...

I believe the WW list should look like this now:

    1.Margarito
    2.Cotto
    3.Williams
    4.Mosley
and then the rest are all at roughly the same level.
(*IMO if a guy beats the no1, he becomes the no1. Cotto was no1, Margo beat him, Margo jumps to no1. That's the way it was in the old days of one champion, and it should still be the way it is now. Yes Williams beat Margo, but Quintana beat Williams, Cotto beat Quintana, Margo beat Cotto, etc... You can't work out the rankings by the old a beat b who beat c nonsense, gets too complicated. If you beat the no1, you are the no1 til someone beats you. IMO)

Margarito WILL beat Williams if there is a rematch. I hope there is, it would be an epic.

Why is Collazo above Cintron? That makes no sense.

I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but... good post fitzgeraldz!!

The only parts I disagree with are those I put underlined, but hey if we all agreed it would be a dull old forum. I appreciate that Margo did indeed beat Cotto at his own game, and I echo your congrats to Margarito.

IMO, he is becoming something quite special though, and he will beat Williams if they fight.

People never recognize that you don't have to be a silky speedy graceful elegant boxer to be a ****ing brilliant fighter. Many of the greats of boxing history do not conform to this style. Duran for one. Henry Armstrong for another. Chavez for another. Hagler for another. There are many more.

No, Tony Margarito cannot box like Floyd Mayweather. But boxing is a physical sport. And Margarito does the physical side so so well that he doesn't need to concentrate on style and skill. And why should his own attributes be rated as inferior to the typical silky boxer? He is one of the best in the game today.

Margaritos bigest strength is his will, and it is true that he is beatable every one is we are all human, but he has tremendous will and a concrete chin, he can be outpointed by a really good fast boxer, but anyone going in trying to impose their will and break him down are going to be in for a long night.

One thing your forgetting, although he did get revenge, Williams got his ass kicked by Quintana which takes him down from #1. Margarito deserves it with his drubbing of an elite undefeated fighter. If Williams wins the rematch, obviously he goes to 1.

I would think the winner of a rematch between Williams and Margarito would be the WW champ

What the hell is Judah still doing so high up...he got beat by BALDOMIR!!!

Berto is unproven and has been put down by a journeyman

Cintron should be higher than Collazo

Mosley is ten times better than Judah

Clottey is solid and lasted 12 with Margo even with damaged hands

Quintana had his ass handed to him by Williams in the rematch
