First of all i just seen a thred talking about this occasion and im sorry if im reapeating something thats already been said, but......... Can i just say as someone that dsnt know billy or ricky ( i just noticed that billy posts on here) you have just made me and my pals very fukin happy. What a night! Ive been to alot of fights even the one when harrison won his title but tonight was the best by far and is probably a night i will never forget. Just so happy that a guy that lives in just a bad area as me (dumbarton) has done something exeptional. He seems like a total genuine nice humble and good guy and it almost brings tears to my eyes that someone like that has done something great. And as his coach billy if you read this can you please tell ricky that he made, my family and mates very proud and we will never forget what he done. Thanks
Billy and Ricky are top lads...:yep Met them both at the Mitchell v Katsidis fight and they had so much time for the fans it was great...:yep World Champion...:happy I think that the best learning fight for Ricky was his loss to Carl Johannsen, he has been a different fighter in a different class since that loss...:yep Well done Ricky and Billy and to all the other members of Team Burns who have played such an important role on this journey to the top...:happy
Burns could have held on and spoiled his way to victory but he done it by beating Rocky at his own game. Fantastic stuff. Billy when I first seen you from the back last night I thought you were wearing loads of bling like Mr T but it was your collar Suuuperb. That was my first live show at the Kelvin Hall and I will deffo be back but Burns will probably need to start looking for a much bigger venue as it was packed to the brim.
awesome performance last night from ricky, Ye billie and ricky are top guys,- billie and his missis looked after me and jamie arthur for 3 days while sparring with ricky back in feb. Ricky is now world champ and best wishes to him for the future. Well done to all at the flying scots gym
Billy Nelson, Since this fight was announced you stuck with the line that Burns had a strategy worked out and he would pull it off, very few believed you and thought Burns was out of his depth and in for a hiding. Not only was what you were saying 100% Burns ripped the title from the champion. You must be praised for the strategy as many thought Burns would win by moving and boxing but he took the fight to Martinez and backed him up, ripping the title from his hands. It was a stroke of tactical genius, just superb. Also the cornerwork that I seen from you was impressive, you kept Burns on course and to the gameplan. Remaining calm but showing the urgency needed. Both of you guys need heaps of recognition and props. Burns and his team are the toast of Scotland just now and you guys have done wonders for Scottish boxing. Amazing, it really was.
that was awesome last night. great fight. I ****ing **** it when Ricky went down, I saw Martinez winking at his corner as if to say "yeah I got this one" then Ricky is back to his boxing in 2-5th rounds and litterly lifted Rocky off his feet with that right uppercut against the ropes. Not only did Ricky box Rocky's arse off, he also beat him at his own game at times and looked intent going for the knock out.
I can't speak highly enough of Billy and Ricky up at the Fighting Scots. Real gents. And to Billy and Ricky last night you created one of the most historical nights ever seen in this country. For every ten people probably 6 or 7 were heavily favouring Martinez. No-one and I mean no-one could've predicted what unfolded last night. That surpasses any night featuring Harrison, Arthur, Weir, Jacobs, Clinton etc in my time anyway. On a personal note I've been through a hellish three months but last night for me made me forget it all and to be honest was bloody inspirational. Ricky went out to prove he belongs on the world stage and the way he came back from the 1st rd and the onslaughts that came his way and still fought fire with fire was just magic. PURE DEAD BRILLIANT
I loved it everytime Billy stepped into the ring at the end of a round and turned to the fans pumping his arms into the air, it really got us all singing and roaring even harder. The man has well and truly proved his credentials as a trainer and knows how to inspire a crowd as well as his fighter
Congrats to you all Billy, Fancied Ricky to pull off the upset and what a fight. Anyway just wanted to comment on the chemistry in the corner between yourself and Dean Powell. I think it was after the 11th or 10th round when you were getting exited (understandable) and Dean said to stay calm (which you did), then in the same break you had to ask him to stop talking so you could give instruction (which he did) - now this does not sound like a harmonious corner but it seems like you compliment each other very well, reckon he is a perfect No2 for you. Congrats again guys.
If there's one fight this year that i wish I was at it was this! I'm not going to lie, i Sky +'d it and didn't watch it until 2/3am this morning, but even then i was jumping up and down as if the fight was live. Truly amazing atmosphere and the perfect performance to match from Ricky and his crew. Well done Mr Nelson, this title is well deserved.
Just finished watching the fight now - absolutely cracking performance, well done to everyone involved.
