Yep, ignore. Some people do seem hooked on the political side of the game as much, if not more, as the actual fighting side.

Just see the belts as a gague of a fighter ability. Roe can say he ignores them but I bet you get excited when you see a fighter in a WBA title fight. Khan unifying with Judah was a big deal. things like that.

The belts do so much **** for boxing you could do on forerver. the only real befefit is the mandatorys.

if a fighter honours them eventually they will have a challenging fight.

    Ignore. Completely.

I literally have no interest in the politics side of things. Why people often prefer to discuss a fighter's purse rather than a fighter's fundamentals, or simply qualities as a fighter is always a mystery to me.

The simplest solution is to give everyone a belt of some description.

The term champion is so diluted its almost meaningless & deeply confusing for a casual observer.

Catch 22, half the time unifications end up with the winner being stripped of one of the belts at his next fight. And the Khan situation throws up the problem of what happens when he vacates. He's talking about one more fight, possibly for the wbc, then moving up weight and you can be sure if he does vacate 3 belts there will be 3 new champions after he does.

The IBF are the best of a bad bunch as at least they don't have super, diamond, mega global erotic thunder champions.

No way to any I've highlighted.

And what if they get **** mandos? Because we've seen that happen a lot.

The belts are a f'n joke. You can unify, be stripped of one, and then someone else i being called a 'champion' of your division. It's ludicrous, and the only solution is one that boxing promoters just will not go for, and that is blanking them and going for a new belt, with revised rules and not going the safe way out and using a 'title' to help sell a fight.

A single World title holder against a challenger who deserves to be there, is a massive money earner. That's how it used to be. You make THE CHAMPS genuine mega stars again, and casual fans find it easier to follow again, with name reognition of most of the champs I bet.

'Champion' means you are THE MAN. If you take out all the other 3 and look at the WBC only; they think that Olusegun is one of the top 5 welterweights in the World? Really......

It's a farce. A marketing tool. Boxing essentially needs to be re-branded, but it'll never happen. It's destined to be a fringe sport.

    Guilty as charged.

What I love about this sport is we the fans rarely get what we want without a huge battle to get it, thus making it that bit more satisfying when it happens.

No the belts honestly mean **** all to me. In fact, they **** me off more than they sell a fight to me.

I was a fan of David Haye til he walked around pretending to be heavyweight champion. The only real reason I wanted Wlad to win was to prove that he's the World Champion at heavyweight. Typically that didn't even happen though and the WBA just made up another belt to give to Wlad so they can create another fake 'champion'. And Sky Sports still market Haye under the banner 'Former Heavyweight World Champion'

That's just one example. Judah holding a belt at 140 lbs also meant nothing. Tim Bradley now holds no belts and gets dropped in the ring rankings yet he fought the #2 in the division only 6 months ago. Before that he won the WBC belt off a 'champion' in Witter, won the WBO belt off of their 'champion' Kendall Holt and Devon Alexander won the IBF belt off of their 'champion' Juan Urango. Now Amir Khan has beaten none of those and yet he's apparently #1 :huh

And I'm not knocking Amir, his opposition has been good but you see how ****ed up it gets with poxy belts that mean absolutely **** all.

Look at Ricky Burns. He beats Martinez. Has 3 **** defences. Now his mandatory is Adrian Broner. His next fight will be Broner or Fana. So you will see a fight between two top 5 guys.

    Huck vs Lebedev
    Pascal vs Dawson
    Cloud vs Johnson
    Bradley vs Peterson
    Khan vs Maidana
    Marquez vs Katsidis
    Burns vs Martinez
    Munroe vs Nishioka

these were some of the better fights last year and they happend because of the Alphbets mandating them. fair enough you have to go through allot of **** fights but you get the odd gem.

the ideal situation is you have one belt.

Not having a go Rob but I don't think you understand. Mandatories are as fake as the champions. Nobody gets made mandatory challenger in the right way. At Heavyweight in the WBC you've only got to beat Ray Austin in an eliminator to become their mandatory.

There are so many other examples of guys just randomly popping up in the rankings.

Ricky Burns.. wins a belt that's held by FW (and has been for years) defends it against really average nobodies then will probably lose it if Broner's management are prepared to pay enough to buy it off him.
