My guess is that was at the 5th St. Gym, l? Work with Angelo, or another trainer?

I think he was there in the beginning but they tore that gym down sometime in 93. A new gym was opened SoFla fitness, and thats where I worked out with him.
Angelo moved up to Pembroke Pines after the gym was demolished and I started working out there with those guys in 95-96 with the Swedish team.
Rourke also opened a boxing themed sports bar called Mickey's on the beach shortly after they tore down 5th street. It was a really nice place but it failed after about a year.

Yeah everyone was distraught, but the beach was a ghost town for several years after the 60's, so rents were cheap and a boxing gym could survive there. Sometime in the late 80's the it became a hip hangout and all the fashion people and movie stars starting reviving it. Rourke had something to do with that as well, being that he grew up down there.
They tore that gym down to make a dam parking lot for clothing stores and nightclubs!
Now the beach is a subculture of its own completely different than the surrounding cities. When you go down there its like being in a different world.

He also did get something broken on his face boxing I think...(Check bone?). But also he was smashed up in a pretty bad motorcycle accident...he was ****ed up and wasn't wearing a helmet...he also has some short term memory issues from the accident.

    :rofl :rofl :rofl

Illuminating thread! A sincere "thank you" to Pachilles.

I have now been disabused of a couple of misconceptions:

    a) I thought "John Garfield" was John Garfield.

    b) I thought "John Garfield" was an admirer of Frank Sinatra, and had placed a very flattering picture of the Chairman as his avatar.

    No misconceptions here, though:

"John Garfield", the smooth, lady-killing, boxing connoisseur, has rightfully become a living legend around these parts.

Nothing compares to Carrie Otis in Wild Orchid :D. The acting was horrendous, but seeing her naked was priceless.
Rourke is a very good actor, just got himself blackballed out of Hollywood for acting like a schmuck. Hes seem to learn how to behave a little better since losing all his money.
