What do you mean too laid back?

It's good to be relaxed, which will help stop you from burning excess energy. But if you're so laid back you're not even trying that would be a bad thing.

Try to sparr with people who are better than you, I find that helps. When I spar with noobies too much I start baiting them by dropping my left etc and I don't get away with this against faster, better skilled opponents.

Are you getting tagged because of it?

If you are feeling this way and NOT getting tagged? You could have outgrown your pond (gym talent pool).

If you want to not feel that way? You and a couple of buddies go on the road and ask to get work at a different gym where nobody knows you. Make it worse by all wearing the same colors/tees.

Relax if you want to... I am sure someone who's gym you are at will be more than happy to help you get "laid back".

When sparring against people who you are better than, work on the stuff that you aren't good at. So if you are usually an aggressive pressure fighter, practice boxing off the back foot or counter punching them. Work on your defense, try to stay in the pocket but not get hit. Working slips, bob/weave taking punches off your shoulders etc.

Do rounds where you only throw your lead hand, or even just your jab.

When you are in with people who are equal or better you can use what you do best.
