Davis is a spectacle & a mini attraction to the sport, but only in certain areas. He's very popular & well known in the DMV, but outside of that region, he's not a big draw. I doubt he could sellout in Vegas like his boss Floyd. Also, he's altered his style to become more negative in terms of being crowd-pleasing. Ever since the after Barrios fight, (where he was significantly behind on points for the first time in his career), he's adopted a more stick & move style were he's in retreat mode for most of the fight. We first saw that in the Cruz fight & now the Rolly fight. Luckily for him, he still carries KO power in either hand so he can coast for 12 rounds & still produce an epic KO. However, this new spoiler style that he's adopted isn't gonna do him any favours in the long run though (especially if he continues to fight low-tier fighters)...
Its called Adrenaline,-the key thing is what he said after. What do you think Rolly would had done and said if he beat Tank?
Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Holmes, Tyson, Pryor, Mancini, et al put fans in the seats without acting like an immature arrogant jackass.
hugged him like every other boxer after the fake trash talk, look at Bellew after he beat Haye, he doesn't even run towards his Mrs with that much love in his eyes
It's hilarious how much **** Tank gets from people (on here), when his own peers (other boxers) all almost universally love him. Everyone acknowledges his star power and the fact that he's a physical specimen
Anyone linked with Floyd or Haymon are just automatically gonna be hated on. I don't care, I'll watch what I want to watch.
The problem isn't that he might be bad, the problem is he might be good and we are missing out on competitive fights.
I don't a damn about boxer maximizing their earnings when they have such weak resumes. I'm not a fan of "guys just getting paid well."
Davis himself isn't the problem, it's other people's perception of him. Davis is the A Side. Davis is a 3 weight champ. Davis is LW champion of the world. Davis has been a champion for 5 years. If he was seen as a Gatti, fine, but he receives plaudits he hasn't earnt in the ring.
I think he might be good. He might be very good. I also think we're never going to find out. A focused, legacy oriented, craft honing Tank could have happened 7-8 years ago but didn't. I'll still tune in to see him sink or swim against hand picked opposition as he's got some of the best knockout power in boxing.
