I actually saw the fight live on TV back in 1997 and scored it clearly for Sweet Pea. I then rewatched the fight several times and still scored it in favour of Whitaker, may be with a slight lesser margin. Whitaker's punches were precise and accurate, while as Dlh, despite being more active, simply couldn't land clearly on Sweet Pea.
The last truly great performance of Whitaker, a performance which also very underrated in my opinion.

Scores like that make you feel like they were always going to rob Pea, even if it did end up being a fight that wasnt clearly in either's favour.... hence the backlash I reckon . I had it for Pea by a whisker, I dont care which way you are going you outland the other guy in enough rounds..you win. But as I said it wasnt by such a margin that you couldnt conceivably argue it the other way.

Yes, but ALL 3 official judges had it by a wide margin despite the fact that Whitaker was the champ. Was this a coincidence especially as DH was the younger more marketable fighter?

By "robbery" people mean more the feeling something "fishy" was going on. Maybe the judges were just incompetent that night, but I am not entirely convinced.

Thats what i mean though, I agree with what u are saying. Whilst Pea didnt win wide and then got robbed like against Chavez. The fact that Hoya was announced the winner, isnt such an issue but the fact it was by that margin makes everyone feel like if Pea had won wider then the best he could have hoped for was a result simliar to the Chavez bout.

I don't think it was a robbery, Oscar edged a close fight.

But people are entitled to their opinions, and I respect that. And the judges scores were far too wide.

What pisses me off, it the people that claim Whitaker was "shot", surely the excellent performance of Whitaker in that fight showed beyond dispute that he was nothing like "shot". :-(

It was extremely close. But I agree that a lot of people speaking of Oscar's career are underestimating him by saying that he robbed Pea and Ike but they have never watched the whole fights. And the fights were damn close

Oscar won that fight clearly. Hell, he landed over double the power punches that Whitaker landed.

Oscar landed over DOUBLE the power punches that Pea landed. He also won more rounds, which is how boxing is scored. BTW, the knockdown was bogus and everyone knows that. Their legs were tangled up, you might need to watch it again.:good

Floyd Mayweather landed 207 punches on DLH (138 being power punches).

DLH landed 122 punches on Mayweather (82 being power punches).

Now please explain why you think DLH won that fight WITHOUT reference to how full of **** punch stats are

    OR

STFU about punch stats as if they are meaningful.

You're making it sound as if DLH's punches were twice as effective as Whitaker's were, which is plainly bull**** to anyone with eyes and the absence of DLH's dick from one of their orifices.:good

DH landed very few power shots. I disagree with the punchstats of HBO.
