Is the argument hear that PPV numbers reflect the quility of both boxers?
If that is the argument than you are wrong. People buy Pacquiao PPV's because of Pacquiao and Pacquiao alone with the expection of his bout with De La Hoya. Same as Mayweather. You can argue that Hatton helped with both. However the PPV numbers dose not reflect the quility of the boxers just that people are willing to see them fight.

That doesn't make logical sense- there are two participants. There's a reason why Pac-Marg netted differently than Pac-Clottey.

Either that or I don't understand what youre trying to say. Quality can be taken in many different ways.

Unless I'm reading what you opened this thread with wrong. It seemes thjat you are saying that Pacquiao's oppoents are worthy oppoents who posed a real threat to Pacquiao and not just overrated names. The reason Pacquiao/Margarito did better than Pacquiao/Clottey has nothing to do with how good or bad Margarito and Clottey are as boxers it has to do with peoples williness to buy the fight. Margarito dose have a larger fan base than Clottey and there fore his fight is going to do better. This dose not make Margarito a great boxer.

Oh no definitely not. I wasn't trying to say they were good fighters. Here is an analogy that sums it up:

    Floyd beats fighter A

    Pac beats fighter A

People claim "Fighter A was shot by the time Pac got to him"

but people are also making the argument:

Both fought fighter A, Floyd got more PPV buys, therefore Floyd is a greater draw.

But that last argument is flawed because fighter A was "shot" by the time Pac got to him and did not have the same acclaim as before. The difference in "draw power" was a resultant of the changes in fighter A's status rather than the two boxers ability to draw PPVs.

Sorry I just got back to this, but what dose the talent or quility of a boxer have to do with PPV sales and boxoffice? Popularity is what takes the day and makes the bucks.
