To those who believe Roy going from 193lbs to 175lbs in 9 months destroyed him, here is a list of LHW champions that went up to heavyweight and back down to LHW:

Maxie Rosebloom - Constantly fought at HW between title defenses. Went up to 193lbs for HW fight, back to 174 for success title defense three months later.
John Henry Lewis - Also fought alot at HW, went up to 186lbs and back down to 174 to successfuly defend title in 5 months
Joey Maxim - Went from 189lbs to 174lbs in 1 year to capture LHW title
Archie Moore - Multiple examples of him going from 190's to under 175lbs to defend LHW title in a few months.
Bob Foster - 188lbs to fight Frazier in 1970, went back down to 175lbs and went unbeaten at LHW until 1978

Weight gain and loss affects people differently because not everyone has the same genetics. Jones, for example, was a mesomorph, Foster wasn't.

Sorry for ruining your thread so early, but you have no point.

The point is historically fighters have done it all the time. Also, it wasn't no 25lbs like he claims, obviously he would have cut water weight and any pro should be able to handle 10lbs, therefore it was only 8lbs he had to loss.

I do wonder at the lack of other examples of fighters dropping all that weight and suddenly having no chin. I mean there is basically arguably one other example that I can think of, and no others...whatever his body type, whatever the weight division, that is weird.

this has been brought up before. You can't reason with Jones 18 year old fanboys. The guy had no Chin from the start, he never could figure out how to fight a decent Southpaw (I am not talking about all the bum Southpaws he fought) he was put in his ass by Lou De Valle, knocked cold by Tarver, knocked out of this Universe by feather fisted Glen Johnson, schooled by Calzaghe, knocked out in 2 minutes by Danny Green who is C level at best.

All you will get is responses with excuses, Superman, unbeatable blah blah blah they guy never was pushed to the limit because he flat REFUSED to make big fights period.

Then he goes to Heavyweight and handpicks the worst paper beltholder in 25 years who has not scored a knockout IN ALMOST 5 ****ING YEARS prior to the Jones fight and it is made out to be the biggest victory in the history of the sport by his nuthuggers.

Roy Jones whole career was smoke and mirrors aided by his ridiculous contract with HBO the guy NEVER beat a lineal, unified, or undisputed champion in his whole career. :deal

His resume simply does not stack up to the other LEGIT ATG's he is compared to.

Roy gained muscles with the help of performance enhancing supplements and specifically DECA. In order to lose weight he had to lose muscle, and in order to lose muscle you have to literally lose all your essential body fluids, which will weaken you severely.

Bob Foster, Archie Moore and the others you mentioned did not gain a solid 25lbs of MUSCLES, but more fluids and fat than anything else.

Going down to 175lbs was Roy Jones biggest mistake, hands down.

Roy Jones won his fight right after his weight loss.

Then he got knocked out in the rematch after he had more time to adjust to the lower weight. To me, that is the problem with the weight loss argument. You need to overlook that he managed to win in his first fight after coming down.

My other problem with the weight loss excuse is that he did not really lose that much weight. Maybe it was for him, but I just don't see it.

In my opinion Roy just got caught with a good punch, and that's what damaged him more on a psychological level. Then of course there is just the natural process of aging that slows down any fighter's reflexes. And reflexes was all Roy had. They were so good that he never learned how to box conventionally.

Neither did Roy Jones. He only weighed 193 lbs.

Any pro should be able to cut down from 185 with just waterweight.

Roy really only had to lose 8 pounds. :deal

Sorry, 18lbs as Roy weighed in at 193lbs.
Didn't he say he weighed over 200lbs in training camp? I am pretty sure they weighed him on the documentary and he practically bragged about being 200lbs, ripped.

I am not saying that specific weight loss deteriorated his punch resistance, but I am saying a ripped man at 193-200lbs won't necessarily be healthy as a boiled chicken at 175lbs. He didn't just lose it, he lost it rapidly.
