Bernard should have got the second fight, it was a clear win. Of course Jermaine got robbed in the 2nd Pavlik fight. He landed many more clean, powerful shots and Pavlik could only score with a jab. I guess it was fate since he himself was gifted perhaps a couple.

Truth be told I've never actually made a close examination of these fights, though I've seen them multiple times each. I had Taylor winning both fights on the casual. The second with greater certainty than the first, if I recall correctly.

Had Jermain edging both 115 -113, or something like that.

Although both fights where very difficult to score and could turn with the slightest adjustment of perspective.

Hopkins' problem is he does not seem to understand that showing everybody he is the smarter, more adroit fighter does not make him get the round.

10-point must also reveals it's disadvantages in both these fights. In the first fight, for example, Taylor won the first 7 rounds by the thinnest of margins. The latter rounds were all Hopkins easily, some of them via domination. A couple of them could be given 10 - 8 but judges never give 10 - 8 rounds unless there is a KD or a brutalization. It is tempting for me to say 'well since the first 7 were so close, why not give a couple of them to Hopkins, as 7 - 0 does not at all reflect how close it was.' But that is not how we are instructed to score a fight. Every round is an entity unto itself, and the fact of the matter is Taylor won the first 7 with his jab and takes a 7 - 0 lead into the 8th. I would love to be able to give one or two of them to HOP and deliver the better fighter his verdict, but that is not our scoring system.

I'm baffled as to why so many in a boxing forum like this saw Hopkins winning even one, much less both fights.

Hopkins workrate in both fights was **** poor.....much more the the first fight where it took him 6 freaking rounds to warm up.

Taylor won both fights comfortably on my scorecard.

I dont know what is it about posers that some fightfans call Ring Generalship!:-(

depends what you score on. taylor didn't land any effective punches. people gave it to taylor based purely on lack of workrate by hopkins.

Not just people in a boxing forum. The majority of ringside analysts had Hop winning the first, as well as one judge.

I'm always baffled when people cannot understand that scoring is often very subjective and that views will be different.

I thought Taylor won both in close fights.

in the first fight i dont see how you can give the fight to taylor. Hopkins had 5 rounds which he dominated and which were lock and key whereas most of jermaines rounds were down to interpretation and hopkins landed the cleaner more effective punches. I had hopkins winning rounds 5,9,10,11,12 clearly and i thought he won 8 and 4 which were close.
I'll watch the second fight again and give a more thorough scorecard

IMO i beleive hopkins thought taylor was better than he actually is , and fought him accordingly.

hopkins fought like a calculator both times , trying to do just enough mathamatically to nick rounds and the fights , instead of going out and trying to win both fights a round at a time.

he took 6 rounds off in both fights m making it near impossible for him to get the wins.

i beleive hopkins to be a much better fighter than taylor and if they fought again , hopkins would know it this time and fight accordingly.

winning a few rounds big which hopkins did ,does not score more points than winning a few rounds close which is what taylor did.

a round is a round is a round and 10/9 is the same wide or narrow.

    Exellent!

......but I dont believe Hopkins beats Taylor is they meet again.

Speed is what old fighters have trouble with........both Taylor and Calzaghe had it.
Tarver and Pavlik were dismantled by a technical master in great part because Hopkins was faster than both.

......I'd bet that Hopkins would fight Taylor the same way that he did both times.....tentative and cautious of not leaving himself open against a fighter that can beat him to the punch.

For once, I believe we're in complete agreement.

Sean's analysis was spot on, but I agree with your ammendment to it in regards to the speed issue.
