I said it wasn't a huge deal. He lost 1 point... Fraud's mouth getting split opened is a bonus. Boxers use illegal blows and get points deduced all of the time.

If the headbutt had ended the fight and he'd have gotten DQ'd, then yeah, it would have been a huge deal, yeah, then everybody would have been at Ortiz's throat. But what happened, he threw an obvious headbutt, got a point deducted, and that was the end of that... I'm not even certain the headbutt caused the lip injury... Could have been a punch too.

    no yuo

With Cortez looking away and Ortiz's reaction looking towards him when the first punch landed I think he was confused about what was going on.

    Cheap shot but also legal.

When I first saw the clip on TV, my jaw dropped and thought it was a dam poor show of Mayweather. But in actual fact the clip that has been posted here makes it look less bad.

The fact that Mayweather had his hands up in a fighting position both should have indicated hostilities were about to begin. And also the position of his gloves might have obscured seing the hugging gesture from cortez.

When all is said and done, there is the ancient rule book of correct etiquette for the fighting man. And on its own Mayweather's action though not illegal would of made him an absolute heel.

But Cortez crime was worse, in that he started the dirtiness. And by doing so blew his concentration and basically ruined the fight. Coupled with the suspicion that Cortez was acting more hurt than he was to get Mayweather disqualified means that he has to take the rap so this one.

Major respect to Cortez for not going overboard on the blame game, he is a young guy and just had a moment of madness.

In my view the worst thing Mayweather did is the way he spoke to the interviewer, in terms of its reputation I think that is done a lot more harm, because he came across as a petulant arsehole. I think that will lose him more respect.

LOL, no it was the headbutt that caused the busted lip man! So it would have been ok if mayweather threw the 1-2 combo(cheap shots, i agree by the way), and did not knock Ortiz out?

Floyd didn't even attempt to answer anything. He jumped the gun and said that **** to Merch unprovoked.

Floyd and Merchant are both clowns. But, seriously, Floyd would have beat-up and stolen Merchant's lunch money 50 years ago. Merchant talks big with a suit on and a mic in front of his face. I"m sure he was a little ***** with a big mouth growing up.

It was a very big deal to me!!! Headbutts can completely change the outcome of a fight. You're basically saying its ok to foul as long as it looks unintentional. You then go on to put Mayweather down for a cheap shot. :?

It was a cheap shot. Floyd was clearly angry and it clouded his judgement. He should just come out say it happened in the moment and offer Ortiz a rematch.

He should also apologize to Larry Merchant. Even though Larry is a dick that tirade only diminished Floyd.

Looks to me like they touched gloves, Ortiz tried to hug for some reason tried to hug and was punched. Let this be a lesson, there is no hugging in boxing.

You pretty much can't diminish floyd's image any further. Lets see, without a conviction he is already an abuser, tax cheat, liar, ducker, coward. How much lower can he go? He is the most hated athlete in America.
