That's a good question. I feel like a sucker punch like that is worst than an intentional headbutt. Illegal blows (rabbit punches, low blows, elbows) do happen, be it intentionally or not. It can be hard to differentiate intentional vs unintentional, and in the end, the result is the same. Headbutt, elbow, etc... to the face.

A planned sucker punch like this involves cowardness. You fake as if you're going to hug the guy, and then attack him when he's not ready. That's a deliberate cowardly act.

Ortiz shot in comparison is more one thrown in the heat of the moment, getting hit repeatedly, getting frustrated, wham, head butt came out, a moment of inattention or weakness... Low blow, rabbit punch, etc. can all happen this way.

But the sucker punch is intentional, deliberate, planned... You walk towards the guy like you want to touch gloves, which basically say: "ok I'm not going to hit you now, I just want to shake hands", and then WHAM, you betray that trust and stab the guy in the back.

It's like two armies, one guy comes out with a white flag, the other army waves them that it's ok to go out, and then bang, they shoot him...

It's a supreme act of cowardness. Fraud Gayweather came in with hands down, to touch gloves, which he did, and then he attacked Ortiz while Ortiz was not ready. He betrayed the 'pact of non-violence' he was partaking.

It's not that much better than punching a guy coming to hug you after the fight has ended. While officially it might have been OK to punch Ortiz because the ref might have called "Box", the way Fraud went in with hands down and then sucker punch Ortiz, he did it while Ortiz had his guard down because Fraud had fooled him into thinking he would not punch him. It was shameful, deceitful and cowardly.

Let's not kid ourselves, Fraud knew he was doing something wrong while he did it. That's why he got all upset at Merchant. Fraud is a dumb, deceitful cowardly ****.

    See above my last post...

Illegal blows happen all of the time. Fraud constantly uses his elbows, he turns away from his opponents, fighters hold on all of the time, use rabbit punches... Sadly, it's part of the game... I'd love it if there was none of it, but there is...

Sucker punches though are an entire new level of low... They're cowardly acts...

And as far as it's ok to foul while it looks unintentional, not exactly, if you don't get caught, then you got away with it... As simple as that.

It's perplexing to see the amount of hatred Floyd gets on this forum...How many times was Ortiz going to hug him before the fight was supposed to resume?? Cortez called time in, and Floyd knocked his ass out...And personally i don't think Floyd was trying to touch gloves with victor the second time, Floyd was already very disgusted with the cowardice act of Ortiz lunging his head in like a battering ram.

Ortiz deserved to get disqualified (not point deduction) for that blatant illegal hit. I love ortiz, but that was a bush league move. Floyd saw an opportunity and took advantage of it, Ortiz is a very vulnerable fighter on a mental level and he had a mental lapse.

What I find most funny is after the break if ortiz was able to land the combo on PBF instead of vice versa I bet their wouldn't be too many groans about it on this forum..He fought dirty, was getting absolutely dominated but Floyd who was the much smaller man, and manny better take close note because Floyd will probably be able to KO him inside 8..Manny lunges too much and as we saw from last night, Floyd would have an absolute field day with him....

Cortez was inches away from the supposed dirty punch, and he didn't feel that way..I'll take his word over some amateur poster who clearly has a subjective opinion against Floyd...

Looks like he comes in with his guard up to me. I don't think it really looks like Floyd is looking to make out there. These slo mo gifs are confusing some of you.

Ortiz committed an actual foul in the fight. Not Floyd.

It was 100% a cheap shot. Floyd was classes and classes above Ortiz so such a pity it ended like this.

Cortez never saw any of it, he was looking at the guy managing the clock outside of the ring... :-(

It was clearly a cheap shot but not illegal. You need to protect yourself at all times.
