To those who thing a 'prime' Tyson can't be hugged and tied down

Let's be realistic. Wlad is a great fighter in his own right and could beat many other fighters, but not Tyson.

There is no way that a guy with a glass jaw and no uppercut is going to beat Tyson.

 

Tyson could be easily clinched at times, but you couldn't beat him this way. You couldn't throw him down or hold and hit him for 12 rounds and beat him.

 

The video offered zero proof about Tyson's clinching lmmfao. As I said, zero proof. Wlads fans are becoming the worst.

At the risk of earning a lotta hate, I'm gonna say that even prime Tyson woulda been foiled, frustrated and beaten by the Steward version of Lennox. Bonecrusher, who hadn't been trained extensively to use his physical advantages to full effect, was able to disrupt PRIME Tyson. I'm guessing Steward took onboard the lessons from this fight when he thought about training Lewis, Wlad...

Tyson was always beatable (for all that he appeared invincible), there was a blueprint and the Smith fight revealed it, and, in fact the strategy for Heavyweight / Superheavyweight dominance.

I say this as a boxing fan whose first introduction to boxing was the Tyson fights of the mid-late 80s, and Mike Tyson was for many years the guy I thought of as the ultimate boxer, but in the end, any style can be beaten, and used effectively, size will tell. Tyson was the greatest HW of his generation to be sure, but to fall into the trap of saying he could beat the guys who evolved in response (in part) to his style is taking it too far.

 

Yes, and by far. The late 80's had nothing. When the argument is Bonecrusher Smith, the division is beyond awful.

The whole reason fighters clinched Tyson was because there was no other way of controlling him (when he was at his best)

Wlad does that ANYWAY, in nearly every fight against much lesser opponents.

My question is, how is Wlad suddenly going to grow a pair of balls overnight and suddenly tame Iron Mike?

answer is. He aint. He doesnt have the punch Tyson is weak to, which Buster, Tucker and Lennox used to great effect (the uppercut). Wlad does not have the warrior like mentality or chin of a Holyfield, so no way is he going to suddenly engage with Tyson.

He probably makes it to the distance but loses a large decision.
If Wlad opens open, Tyson unleashes hell on him.

Wlad has more in common with Bruno than he does with Lennox. Both Big strong fighters with a good right hand, but suspect chins, no survival skills, and they wilt when the pressure is on, and nobody bought the heat quite like Iron Mike

Hell even Lennox was **** scared of the '02 Tyson and was reluctant to take him out, even though Manny was begging him to before he gets caught.

 

The way to deal with Tyson was to clinch him then physically push him back and do this over and over. Douglas did it, Holyfield did it and made it an art form in both Tyson fights, Lennox did it, etc.

Tyson would allow himself to be clinched and also clinch himself if that was what the opponent was willing to do. The 'silent agreement' that was covered in the video I posted. Everyone that beat Tyson clinched him from his Prime version against Douglas to the shot to **** version against McBride. They all clinched him to say otherwise is delusional and Tyson was more than willing to oblige the one outlier being the second Holyfield fight Mike clearly was not up for being clinched in that fight and he freaked out and DQed himself.

 

Tyson fought a few bums, difference is he did what your supposed to do and blew them away instead if crudely and uncomfortably man handling them and fumbling with them them like some drunk high school senior in the back seat of his car with his prom date.

Aside from clinching, to beat Tyson you need a good jab, ability to use upper cuts and and an effective inside game. Wlad only has the jab and his "clinching" would not be allowed by any competent ref that hasn't been paid off by K2. Further more Wlad simply doesn't have THE SKILLS to beat Tyson, Tyson KO's him within 6.
