I was a feared and talented "member" of an informal boxing fraternity who today is sadly overlooked, though I beat the best fighters of my time... I had to retire because of injury...Who am I ?
Yes N. Eddie Booker was a great member of "murderer's row " who kod Archie Moore, beat Holman Williams, Lloyd Marshall, Harry Mathews, Shorty and Big Boy Hogue, and was as good as any member of this "feared" club. But Eddie Booker suffered an eye injury ending his great career...
thankfully many of that feared group are getting the recognition they deserve...the recognition that was reserved for charly burley only until now.
S, I knowest not who did the "deed", but i had heard that an opponent of Eddie Bookers, tampered with his [opponent] gloves, doing permanent damage to the unheralded Eddie Booker's eyes which got worse in time, leading to his retirement... Booker might have whipped a Ray Robinson, so talented was he...:good
fritzie did it oh that little *******! Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, United States Billy Conn W Fred Apostoli UD 15 15 Fritzie Zivic W Eddie Booker PTS 8 8 Sammy Luftspring W Frankie Blair PTS 8 8 Ernie Vigh W Andy Melia PTS 6 6 Mickey LaMarr L Frankie Conn TKO 3 4
Ole Fritzie felt offended cause ha had to play second fiddle to Harry Greb in Pittsburgh boxing history, in the art of rough tactics...I saw Fritzie one time only in January 1945 when he was brought in for cannon fodder against a sensational new puncher from Philly named Billy Arnold, who kod almost everyone he met...My dad and i felt sorry for Zivic before the bout, but the well past peak Fritzie outboxed easily the hard punching "new Joe Louis" for a decision... P.S. What a card you posted from MSG when Zivic decisioned the great Eddie Booker ...Those were the days, the best met the best, or fell by the wayside...Cheers...
I love how the old guys rave about the old time fighters having 200 fights as if they are all 12 or 15 round title fights not 6 and 8 rounders.
:think i rarely hear them claim that but even still, if half are 6 or 8 rounds it beats the hell out of having a career of 40 fights, half of which are still only 6 or 8 rounds
