of the plane crash that sadly took his life. We all wonder what his contributions & thoughts would have been to boxing during the past 40 years...form Ali to the present. I would have loved to hear him as an analyst during those years.
Yeah, I enjoy hearing Rocky speak too. He was straight up. Bet he would have loved Iron Mike had he lived that long.
I remember seeing him showing a guy how to fake fight infront of camera in this documantary ESPN classics, I enjoyed watching. And yeah he was good at breaking fights down for, he did a few of Floyd pattersons fights if I remember rightly (although there wasn't much to say for the Sonny Liston fights he had though)
I met The Rock as a kid at the Brockton Fair...nice man....I remember as if it were yesterday...heard the news on the radio...sad...
Rocky Marciano has siblings living so if the plane crash had not taken his life then it is possible that he would have lived untill verry recently and perhaps even be alive today. If so then it is likley that he would have worked as a comentator over the years through the 70s and 80s on some of the major fights. He tried his hand at acting after he retired so he would probably have had a few bit parts in films.
I think they would have definitely hit it off. Tyson always treated the old time fighters respectfully and paid for them to see his fights. Stylisticaly Tysons style would have apealed to Marciano and he would likley have rated him verry highly.
Tyson did indeed like Rocky's style of fighting, I have footage of him speaking up in defence of Rocky's "rough tactics" when the issue was raised by Harry Carpenter, but I don't know if he rated him or not. I am going to guess that his favourite would have been Holyfield.
What I liked about Rocky's personality was he was a real gentleman, a bright and humble man, a class act. I remember a couple years before he died when my dad played a prank on my mother by having Rocky call the house. When he died my father cried. A big star like him and he treated my father, an also ran like an equal. It's always our loss as a society when we the good die young.
Tyson worshipped Rocky. It was on the radio this morning over here. (The anniversary of his death, that is.)
