    Julio Cesar Chavez Jr!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to wonder how both the boxing media and fans alike would react to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr had he not been the son of a legend, as well as a puppet to a semi-corrupt Mexican organisation. But unfortunately these two always come into the discussion when talking about Jr.

Born in Culiacan, Mexico, in 1986, Chavez, like countless Mexicans before him, turned professional at the young age of 17 with hardly an amateur bout to his name. Boxing as low as Super Featherweight, the young Chavez was very much ‘learning-on-the-job’ in his early years, outpointing one time Jeff Thomas conqueror Oisin ***an, as well as boxing 11 times in 2004 alone (only missing the month of August). In 2006 he secured victory over Carlos Molina (who had previously held Jr to a draw, and who has gone on to beat Kermit Cintron).

But by now, Chavez Jr had shot up several weight classes. Just a year after the Molina victory, Jr won the highly regarded (I joke) WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight Title, knocking out Jose Celaya in 8, before beating unbeaten Tobia Giuseppe Loriga in 9.

In 2010, Jr outpointed Ireland’s John Duddy to win a version of the WBC Middleweight world title in his biggest fight to date, before narrowly beating the undefeated Sebastian Zbik, KO-ing Peter Manfredo, and winning wide against Marco Rubio just last week.

Despite holding a meaningless title, Chavez Jr should very much be considered a true contender in today’s Middleweight division. Having had only 2 fights as an amateur, Jr is getting better all the time. Under the tutorship of Freddie Roach, we have seen Jr’s boxing skills come to the fore. But the Mexican, being true to his heritage, loves to fight. He is a good body puncher, has good power and, at only 25, still has a lot of time to improve. Undefeated in 47 fights, (45 wins, 1 draw, 1 NC, with 31 KOs), Chavez is looking to step out of his father’s shadow, and create a legacy for himself.

    Enjoy!

Slightly difference question today. How does Chavez do with the other Middleweights of the world? Geale, Sturm, Golovkin, Lee, Barker, Murray, Macklin? Who gives Jr the most trouble? Does he have any chance in hell at beating Martinez?

There have been talk of an all mexican showdown with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. How does that fight pan out?

With his increasing weight problem, can he make an impact at 168 against Kessler, Froch, the Dirrell's, and even Ward and Bute? Roach said a jump straight to Light Heavy is a possibility. How does he do against Cleverly, Shumenov, Cloud, even Pascal?

Yep, sparked the durable bloke that only Rosario had sparked...Nazaro?

    Brutal.

Pea was one of the best all rounders ever, equally adept at whipping in shots and outmuscling peeps on the inside as he was dominating with ring generalship behind his jab (one of the best and most consistent I've ever seen)

The guy was unreal Flea, and i dont think he gets the credit he deserves tbh. I showed my brother (not really a boxing fan but follows it now and again) that highlight video. He was totally gobsmacked and said something along the lines of 'he makes Mayweather look ****'. Yes indeed mate!

If the judges in the first fight wasnt Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and David Blunket, he would have won that as well :good

Yeah I know, possibly the worst I've seen.

Everyone knows about his defense had an underrated offense too. Active for a defensive fighter.

    I 100% agree :good

Personally I think the JCC decision was worse (bigger fight etc), and i think i had Pea by 4 clear rounds (have to re-watch)

Seriously, please answer in an impartial way - how would a Whitaker-Mayweather fight have gone?

:happy Whitaker was an incredible fighter, of all the defensive greats I think he was the most well rounded & complete.

Everyone loves a war/big KO but I get as much pleasure watching someone like Whitaker duck & slip shots with apparent ease.

Like Locche he is one of the few boxers that always make me smile whenever I watch old footage of him.

Fighting Sweet Pea must have been a nightmare, landing shots on him is like trying to trap smoke in a bottle.

Well, Sweet Pea was certainly better defensively, and 100% better offensively. Pea by UD by about 4 rounds

It’s hard to say because Whitaker showed us all the facets of his skill set. He could pressure fighters, be cute and defensive, shoot hard counters, punch fluidly in combination. Floyd has not, whether it’s down to his general superiority to his opponents or level of competition.

Whitaker however has all the traits that Floyd would struggle with – equal speed, a more fluid style, southpaw, a great jab as well as being able to punch correctly even from awkward positions, plus he loved to fight.

The jab particularly is what Floyd would struggle with. It disrupts his timing and denies him the space he likes to work in. But he would have moments since he’s excellent on the front foot and could conceivably move Whitaker on to the ropes and score with accurate shots while Whitaker bobs and weaves.

But in terms of a result, I see Whitaker winning this by constantly changing up his look. He rarely presents the same problem twice, so Floyd would need to fight in a way he isn’t used to.

I’d think a 7-5 or 8-4 type decision for Sweet Pea.

This is 100% spot on! Mayweather is great at woring his opponents out, but Whitaker was constintly changes his attack. Floyd wouldnt be able to work him out

I love watching prime sweet pea, he looks smooth on film and is a pleasure to watch, I agree with those saying he would beat mayweather, i just think he has too many looks, and as vano-irons said he could switch tactics as floyd begins to adapt to his style.

I think he would beat Pac too, quite one sidedly actually

One of the best to ever lace gloves on IMO. Technically perfect, fast, ATG defence, good body shots, ATG jab IMO. He lacked brutal power but he wasn't feather fisted.
