Yeah, I felt Chocolate appears to get the better of that fight. Canz' stopped him early in their 2nd outing, some time later, but has the better record against mutual opposition.

Glad you enjoyed it, funnily enough Canz' is one of the first old timers I watched that made me think 'hey, my bigotry towards black and White fighters is lunacy' :good

 

I've heard Chocolate was shafted against Berg. Wouldn't surprise me. Berg seems to have gotten a few gift decisions if memory serves, and the footage of him is less than inspiring.

 

I’m basing the first four on a 15-round distance if we’re to genuinely compare era-for-era.

Ali (Williams period) takes a comfortable decision, using superior mobility to take advantage of Lewis’ amateurish tendencies. Foreman-era Ali wins a close decision, but takes a beating from that jab/right combination. If it was over 12, I think Lennox wins on points.

Johnson loses widely. He’s a good fighter but he lacks the size and style to trouble Lewis offensively. He’d make the fight ugly but drop a decision to Lewis’ consistent jab.

Louis causes Lewis nightmares. Lewis could peck his way to a win and maybe land that right hand (as Schmeling did) enough to bash Joe up, but I’m not sure. Joe learnt so much from that and was as near perfect as can be as a prizefighter. Those short hooks were devastating and he could work on the inside. I see Lewis ahead by the midway point before Joe takes him out with a sweet three-punch combo.

Lennox beats Foreman, prime or old. George was too slow, too cumbersome and wasn’t made of steel in the chin department. The early rounds, where George was at his most aggressive would be competitive, but Lewis will just keep landing hard punches until the big man falls.

Holmes is a tough one. He’s mobile, punches pretty hard and has the jab to offset Lennox’s own. I can see this going the 15 with a very contentious decision for either man. Lennox is the classier puncher, but Holmes is a brawler as well as a boxer. If Lewis’ timing is up to scratch, he could score a knockdown of the sometimes over-eager Larry and take the win. So I’m edging towards Lewis.

Tyson gets beaten down the same way, but he’s more competitive. Instead of petering out after two rounds, he’d go four or five, hurting Lewis to the body before Lewis’ superior punch selection wears the smaller man down. KO 9 or 10.

Johnson - Ain't seen enough of Johnson to say.
Louis - KO's Lewis in the mid-rounds.
Foreman - Lewis decision.
Holmes - Holmes by decision. Outjabs Lewis.
Tyson - Lewis late so long as he survives early.

 

I favour Lennox over Louis. I'll say why later ;-)
