I don't rate on H2H. Is he one of the top H2H Heavy? Yes, no doubt, I've said that for a while.

He's no.3 in my top 10 based on resume/achievements/'greatness'.

And yes, SportsLeader, Holmes had a good chin, but he could be tagged, that's where his insane recuperative powers came into play. I don't take much from him for the Tyson fight, that's more proof of Kid Dynamites insane level at that time.

Holmes was never stopped again. That's no accident. Tyson gets massively underrated nowadays. Too easy to forget what a beast he was at his best, he'd definitely be up there for H2H Heavys for me as well.

Honestly, I've watched and absorbed so much about him but I can still barely comprehend what he did to Michael Spinks. Physically and mentally. What a beatdown :scaredas:.

But I'm going off tangent here, that's enough from me people :yep.

 

I'd take Lennox to edge out Holmes. Larry was great but his biggest weakness was he had very poor defensive reflexes. For all his technical skills, Holmes was very easy to hit cleanly. Watch all his big fights. Snipes, Weaver, Shavers, Norton etc all almost had him out. I think Lewis' cautiousness, better defense and temperament makes the difference. Lennox also loved fighting men that were his size/height. He struggled more with guys that threw shots from underneath. LL was a massive puncher too. I think he hurts Larry at some point and changes the dynamics of the fight.

 

This is a good write-up Slip. I agree that Holmes had some bad ones ('Spoon=Very close; Weaver=***** street, Shavers=:scaredas but I definitely think he had the ability to pull himself to together, get his **** together, and then proceed with business.

Of course, Lennox had a much better temperament than all of those guys (Shavers, for example, was a horrible finisher). Therefore; 'changes the dynamics of the fight'. I can see that entirely.

I would say Larry struggled with the guys that Lennox also did. When he fought someone as big/bigger (Cooney) he was also in his element. Now, don't think for a second I'm comparing Cooney to Lennox But I would say Lennox doesn't have the same crouching and explosive tendencies those other guys did that hurt Larry (Weaver, Snipes, Shavers)

It's as 50-50 a HW clash as you could find really.

Everybody knows Lennox Lewis could blast out every Heavyweight in history.

Depending on how much they pissed him off.

I really do believe that a pissed off Lennox Lewis was very close to unbeatable.

Yep, it's as close a fantasy match-up as you can get. I just think Lewis holds more of the game-changing aces. It's really weird how consistantly easily Larry was to hit by even mediocre guys like Snipes (Larry was a heavyweight version of JM Marquez in that sense). In fact Holmes had spells of struggle/crisis in almost all his big fights. Also, people don't tend to think of Lennox as a vicious puncher because of his mentality and percieved passiveness, but IMHO he was a awesome puncher when he wanted to be. I just imagine them going back and forth in exchanging rounds, but Lennox having that ability to hurt Holmes more and perhaps dropping him a couple of times on his way to a narrow decision.

 

Lewis was vicious when he was younger. After the KO to McCall he was happy to coast to a decision if he felt he was in control. But against a threat, or when he saw a clear opportunity, he was a killer.

 

Deffo', hence why I lean towards Lennox in a matchup with 'The Brown Bomber'. And the genuine erections I can get when watching Louis have been well documented.

 

Oh, yeah, and Lennox would blow Marciano away. The Rock would be hard to get leverage on what with the height disparity and him fighting out a crouch, so I'll go for Lennox via 4th round face mangling.

 

I think he probably gets enough appreciation

Yep, spot on.

Another thing is everyone knows how great Holmes' jab was, but i don't think he was all that creative with it. He has a better jab then Lewis from point A to B. However Larry for the most part didn't hook off it and threw it at the same tempo (he probabily didn't need to though, it was so good).
