Yeah they should all just become Paulie and Tim Bradley, they could fight 120 rounds and cut/bruise the **** out of each other because they can’t punch for ****. They would be wrestling and fatigued for 100 of those rounds, but at least in 100 years time we could pretend that those bums are all time greats who are far superior to todays fighters.

Are you serious? What old time fights aren’t absolute trash? Even 1960s heavyweight fights are horrendous affairs by todays standards.

Fury-Klitschko was a terrible fight, and if that took place in the 50s it would be considered an all time great fight by the rose coloured crew here. The ref would let them wrestle and punch each other on the ground, that’s what most old ‘boxing’ fights are full of.

No, what is ‘better’ is a value judgement. If you like atrocious boxing, wrestling and brain dead rock’em sock’em marathon runners who eat steak for breakfast then of course you’re going to think old time boxing is better.
If you want to claim that those bums were more skilled or better athletes than those in the evolved sport of today then of course everyone should be laughing at you and questioning how you manage to turn a light switch on. You have every right to wear your nostalgia glasses and think about the good old days. I sometimes like to practice alchemy and think about how inferior modern chemistry is. I sometimes like to practice my witchdoctor skills and talk trash about modern medicine. Each to their own.

I’m pretty sure back in the day there were a lot of fighters gassing as well just like recent fighters like Pac, Floyd, JMM Bradley, GGG, and others don’t fade.

Some boxers have the ability to fight at a breathtaking pace, without even looking winded after 12 (or 15 in the old days) rounds - while others aren't so lucky, and get visibly tired long before the finish.

Needless to say, it has always been like that! Just like some are blessed with an iron jaw - while others are not. The same with heart - some are prepared to carry on beyond the call of duty, while others are not.

These different traits have always been there, and are not restricted to cetain periods/eras. The idea that the oldtimers were harder, more courageus or better trained that today's boxers - is of course without foundation.

It's true that guys like Johnson wouldn't win decent open amateur tournaments at SHW, but these guys would beat most modern amateurs their size. They're in worse shape than most amateurs nowadays obviously, and have no idea how angles work, but they're more athletic than you realize.

Obviously sprinters would suck at marathons.

The whole sport is embarrassing. Fight bums once a year, hoping to get a title shot. Avoid the other alphabet champs. Talk **** and hope fans don't notice.

I don't think it's fair to say that some of the fighters of yesteryear and times long past couldn't hang with modern fighters and compete in this and more recent eras. I think some of the very best fighters from previous eras could definitely be competitive and maybe even one or two of them could possibly beat today's second tier albeit I don't see any of them having dominant reigns even if they managed to pick up a vacant belt or sprung a huge upset against a WBA regular belt holder

But why are we discussing these dinosaurs in the first place when we already have a forum specifically designed for that purpose just over here >>>>

It's called the Classic forum and if you want to discuss dinosaurs and relics from the past get your asses over there ASAP and stop polluting this forum with your nostalgia bias and expecting everyone else to view everything through the lenses of rose-tinted googles
