which will be run at 4:05pm EDT. Anyone having a bet should seriously consider backing their selection each way as you're assured of making money as long as your horse runs in the first three.

If you're feeling lucky then throw a few horses in an exacta or a quinella as they always pay well in these big events.

so I can't back out now (not that I want to) BUT I am concerned that he may get a little to far back in a race that doesn't appear to have much pace.

With a firm track and the rail out six meters it spells danger for any horse that races worse than midfield. Interesting fact is that 5 of the last 13 winners have been in the first two as they past the 800m mark....that's virtually unheard of in any race.

    Although both

    and

have drawn shocking barriers I doubt that they'll have to do to much work to get to the front. Both are top class gallopers who will give a great sight for your money and if you are doing quinellas, exactas or trifectas they must be included.

is the knockout horse who only has to avoid trouble from barrier 1....although he is such a big horse he does need plenty of room to stretch out and wind up before he can show his best. The other Kiwis, AJC Derby winner

    and NZ Oaks winner

also have good chances at great odds.

Anyone wanting to take a chance on a longshot should take a very close look at

. While it's been a while since he has won a race there have been valid excuses for a horse that vastly improves on a firm surface. Ice Chariot has won at the track and over the distance and is peaking at just the right time after three placings from three starts this preparation over unsuitable distances. He'll be around 40/1.

I have the Littorio / Master O'Reilly quinella.

I have Zagreb in my Tri and apprehensively left out Red Ruler due to barrier 1, hope I don't regret it.

Im still deciding on a value bet between Riva San, Mad Rush & Nom Du Jour.

Nom Du Jeu, Ice Chariot and Master O'Reilly put in huge Melbourne Cup trials as did the winner (All The Good) and Mad Rush.

Scarey thing is that Septimus is considered as the class horse among the Europeans while the Caulfield Cup winner, All The Good, is considered to be a Group 3 horse at best.

I believe that the race is already out of reach for all Australians apart from Efficient and Zagreb if he makes the field.

Good on u Kegsy. I got on at $12, which got me out of a little trouble today, but not completely. Very happy ive got the last 2 Cox Plate winners though, as its my fave day of the year.

I took the 20's in doubles but all I've got left in Efficient in the MC(20x8) who'll no doubt break down and die before the race.

I just dont win doubles going at 160/1

I did get Maldivian at 16s but a Zipping win still would have been a better result....unless Efficient goes on to win the Melbourne Cup.

BTW, did anyone like my speed map? It was close to perfect and predicted the winner and all...
