It's one thing to tip the winner in a 12 horse field at WFA on a specialist track like Moonee Valley....but to even try aqnd pick the Cup winner before Mackinnon Stakes/ Derby Day.....:rofl  :rofl

Why do you think I challenged Slut Guts to do it ?

    There's so many variables....

    1. The field is far from decided with some needing to do well on Saturday.

    2. Horses that run in the Saab or the Mackinnon can make the field with a win, some even a placing will do.

    3. Some horses currently within the 24 horse field can be leapfrogged and miss out.

    4. The VRC have the right to omitt a runner even if it has fully qualified, a real possibility with the large number of imported gallopers.

    5. The race is a handicap.

    6. There's 24 horses in the race...and a hard luck story is a certainty.

    7. Certain punters have come close to perfecting the Indian Rain Dance. Until we know weather the whether will be nice or not I aint even going to bother spelling it correctly.

    8. Some horses that are doing well leading up to the race do poorly on the Saturday (Mackinnon/Saab) and they NEVER win the Cup.

    9. A 3yr old that wins the Derby can run in the Melbourne Cup.

    10. There's always a late scratching, injury or rumor that usually has a major impact.

That said, Efficient's a certainty to win back to back Cups. :thumbsup

    Make Heaps ?

You ever heard of the saying "small fish are sweet" ? I first heard it at the racetrack, supposed to mean that one should be happy with the small wins or some ****.

My response is that small fish have those little ****en bones that get caught in the back of your throat.....anyhows,

To make "Heaps" out of punting requires two things, time and lots money....I have neither. By lots of money I mean enough to cover a bad losing streak, you know, lose 100 bet 200 down 300 bet 500 down 800 bet 1000 down 1800 bet 3000....and so on.

What I do have is a love of the thoroughbred and thoroughbred racing so I have a small investment now and then on my favourite horses (as one would with their favourite footy team).

Every so often I'll have a good go on something that I come across if I believe all the stars are in alignment....but we are talking about midgets on 650kg animals running at over 50kms...anything can happen.

Simple rule, if you can't afford to lose it then don't back it.

As far as the wife's concerned it's an acceptable vice as I don't drink, smoke or participate in pharm parties. The catch is that she puts the taxman to shame and she has a knack of knowing when I've scored a big win.

Could have something to do with the lack of cursing those ****ing inbred midget ****s....

As if to prove my point just how hard it is to predict the Melbourne Cup winner until after Saturday, news just came through that Efficient has been withdrawn from this years Cup.

I would rather have been proven wrong.
