is this the weakest era to date. a small martinez being no.1 wouldnt hack it with jones, hagler, monzon and many more. julio cesar chavez who has only beat rubio who is near top10 and comes in long over the middleweight limit, paul williams who looked to be a good operator till his chin was cracked and although beat a top10 lara hasnt shown much. they all seem to be decent fighters but none particularly special, or is it as athletes have grown the better fighters are in the supermiddleweight division, but then we still have great welterweights. u knowledgeable lot can tell me if the middlweight division has been this bad before.

Martinez, Pirog, Golovkin, Lara, Williams, Sturm, Quillin (when at MW), N'Jikam, Proksa are all good fighters. I really believe that the MW division is one of the best, but people in america doesn't here a lot of guys like Pirog, Golovkin, Proksa and J'Jikam. They're really good.

Seemingly 2d greatest middleweights of Hopkins' era aside from Hopkins himself r Keith Holmes & Andrew Council .

There are quite a few good middleweights, it's just that they're not American, thus the division must be weak...

no william joppy , i intentionally omitted him . he only gets a partial free pass 4d trinidad loss , but then he might deserve some credit 4 taking on him unlike d rest , but then trinidad was a former welter 2 joppy's career lowest (by far : 5.25 lbs) of 152 lbs .
    If u insist then Eastman was d 3rd and Joppy a 4th , possibly close 2 Council & Holmes .

The middleweight division has largely sucked since the end of the Hagler era.

Sergio Martinez is an absolute badass.

So, so good. So fast. He might not have been able to handle a Jones or a Hagler, but he is plenty good enough to fight a Hopkins or a Monzon and not get embarassed.

He'd win, but I doubt it'd be a simple, clean, easy nights work. He's not fast enough to clean Martinez' clock early and dust his hands with him. I think it'd resemble the Benvenuti fights.

Martinez can do AT LEAST as good as a bloated Napoles. The dude is greased lightning.

Napoles might have won the middleweight title had he been fighting a small middle that relies on mobility and speed rather than technique or physicality like Martinez.

That's actually a really good matchup for him, unlike maybe a lesser fighter, but bigger harder puncher with a direct physical approach like Pavlik would be.
