"Our business model is to develop guys; develop them from the bottom and create platforms so they become relevant, and make hopefully the most compelling fights out there...not necessarily the best against the best; it's what's the most consumers want to see," stated Top Rank President Todd DuBoef, who discussed the Top Rank business model when it comes to making fights.

They're basically trying to build up their guys so that all ten of them can just keep fighting each other so bob keeps all the money. How exciting.

Who was the last long-term draw Top Rank actually built from the ground up? Cotto? At least Todd, like his father-in-law, admits he doesn't care about the sporting aspect of boxing.

 

One of the most honest statements that's ever come from that company. And most boxing promoters, for that matter.

 

top rank is in the hbo business. hbo is in the business of manufacturing stars. they're not interested in proving who's best unless it suits them. gatti was a prime example of what hbo wants. sure...he was a main events fighter. but the guy fought on hbo more than any other fighter win or lose. lost to angel manfreddy, ivan robinson twice, dlh, mickey ward, floyd, baldomir and gomez. how many times have we seen them not televise a guy again if he beat their guy??? how many times did manfreddy fight on hbo? how about ivan robinson? they don't want the best...they want guys they can sell as the best. even if it means helping their guy in whatever way they can. top rank understands what they want...and top rank is there to deliver.

 

i wonder if they discussed this model with pac man before he resigned...it doesnt seem to jive
