    Fellas, Mates & Gents,

Dude's like Jimmy Young and Buster Douglas seem to be getting a lot of ink here in the classic section of ESB these days and nights... Why? Hell if I know... STILL.?.?

Okay, short, sweet and simple...Who wins??

1990 "Tokyo" Buster Douglas against the 1976 version of Jimmy Young who dropped a close shave to Ali on ABC TV..... Who thinks what??:think

My pick is with Buster Douglas...:bbb

I sensed this latest thread of mine was gonna drag...... "Douglas-Young" of 1990 and 1976 just doesn't excite when meshed together....

BUT!! I just cannot picture Young of the mid to late '70s being able to off-set or handle 1990 "Tokyo" Douglas who was 231 pounds and tuned to kick some ass....

Well, Tyson was pretty much a punching bag for Douglas in 1990'. except for that knockdown, Douglas didn't really face a worthy opponent by then.
however he would still give young problems based on the jab, right hand and combinations.. But young would counter, block and slip a lot of douglas's shots.
I think young's defense would pay off here.

Nowadays there are a probably a lot of people who think that Tokyo is Douglas' middle name  Anyway,it is relevant,as James' one trick pony in that city was the most signifigant one in boxing history, probably. On that night,'Buster' was a very good fighter. Tyson,as he was on that night, was the perfect top heavy for him. A prime Young would have been a different matter. Jimmy would have counterd and slicked his way to a clear decision.

Jimmy would have beaten Buster by a unanimous decision, beating him to the punch, and using his defense greatly.Probably something like 10-5, or 9-6 in rounds.

  10. lol is it a joke? jimmy would would have schooled douglas. ali even in 1976 would kick the ass of douglas and young was stolen against ali

Mr Bill, what do you mean Douglas/ Young wouldn't excite? Two really good boxers getting together. What are you, a wrestling fan? Well, I know you know that Young would school him, you're just asking for fun, I know. Yea, Douglas was great that night, nice job on Tyson. One of boxings best nights. But Young would present problems for him in that that nice, stiff, long jab of his would just be hitting air. And he'd be countered, all night long. I'd say Young by dec, or KO. I think Douglas would be real tired the second half be missing so much, abd Jimmy going to the body alot.

I don't know magoo, but I'm hoping Addie makes a comical photoshop of this "Tokyo" Douglas.

He was the perfect fighting machine that night, dosen't happen often. What makes it even better, is that he was suppoed to get his ass kicked. Thats the fascination!

I still take Buster over Jimmy in a time machine........ Young from '76 to 1980 NEVER once looked as imposing or as powerful as B.D. did in Japan in 1990...... Regardless of his opponent..........

Also, even though Mike Tyson was *****-whipped by early 1990 and lacking focus, he still managed to weigh-in at 220 pounds, which was in the range of his usual fighting weight...... Tyson was whipped and somewhat soft looking in Japan, but he was no slob in defeat against "Big Bus" Douglas.......
