Jimmy never looked imposing or powerfull ever! Never stopped him from kicking some of the best ass the boxing ring has ever seen! And you're right, tyson was going downhill ever since he got rid of Rooney, his replacements were useless, but he was still a gifted heavyweight, who could punch too. All the more credit to Douglas for staying in there in beating him to a pulp.

Buster would be wishing he never took the fight. A stationary, clueless Tyson was his meat...he'd be embarrassed by Jimmy and lose an upset decision..

I don't think that its a clear shot either way. While Young had some huge wins, he was just as inconsistent as Douglas was, and if we're honest, neither man fought the best versions of their biggest named opponents... Young defeated an ill prepared and unmotivated Foreman, just as Douglas did with Tyson. Ali and Norton were past it, yet still managed to squeak out decisions over Young, albeit close and controversial... Douglas defeated similarly diminished renditions of Berbick and Page.... Both men faired well against slower stationary targets, but we never saw either against a prime technician... Douglas had the slight advantage in size and power, while Young was a tad more fluid and perhaps a bit more durable..

Most have picked Young to take a wide decision, but I think that its close... Jimmy probably takes it on the cards, in a tight and unimpressive affair, but I could see the opposite happening in similar fashion, depending on how each man shows up.. We also have to consider that Young was still somewhat close to prime in 1979, and lost twice to Ossie Ocasio, hence confirming my observation of his inconsistency.

Big Bus Douglas was way bigger at 6' 4" tall and 231 lean pounds in Tokyo. Plus, Ol' Buster had a great left jab and quick right cross with very reasonable power in it...

I think Buster could really bother Jimmy with his reach and speed...

Buster gets my vote based on size, speed, skills and leg movement...

Jimmy is slippery and stinky, thus, he hangs in there, but loses on points in the end of 10 rds...

I could see Buster's jab bothering Young a lot. The match-up doesn't necessarily favour Jimmy, but he was crafty and might find a way around Douglas's jab. If he doesn't, as Tyson didn't, he's not winning.

That Douglas, wouldn't work well against a defensive fighter like Young......Completely different fights in my opinion......would be perfect for Jimmy I think.....

A powerful pole of a jab backed by a 6'4 frame and an 83" reach is never perfect for anybody. Douglas's defense wasn't always so great though and Young might find him with telling counters, but he'd have to be slick all night to avoid having his nose bloodied.

Yeah, good point on the reach !
    But I mean......
It would be much more difficult to land clean jabs against a guy fighting on the back foot every minute.....Fight against Tyson and fight against Young are completely different things.....
Young´s head wouldn´t be there for Douglas like happened against Tyson (and Tyson even doesn´t have the same fast and constant head movement in that fight)

In my opinion.......I don´t know if I was clear......

By the way, THANK YOU VERY MUCH I always watch your videos !
Jimmy Ellis vs Jerry Quarry !! Awesome ! I will watch it later....

"Douglas-Young" makes for a bigger version of "Hearns-Benitez." Guess what? Hearns won on points without doubt over Benitez regardless of one judge's card rendered in New Orleans.... Cheers.....

Young had much more head movement than the limited Tyson of Feb '90. Douglas wouldn't have an easy time and would've been countered. It would've been an interesting fight that I would've loved to see still Young takes him to school and gets the UD.

The parallel between Young and Benitez has one interesting side note...that Young's chin was made of steel compared to Benitez.

I would go for Buster but wouldn't bet on it, Young is clever but no god.

Two of the most overrated fighters talked about on Classic. A one-off version of a good fighter and a consistently pooch-screwing survivalist with the skill minus the will. Both so, so very far from great but revered like the volcano god that could destroy our village at any given moment.

Imagine if Tokyo Douglas fought the Young who beat Foreman, surely the world itself would implode, because neither of these immortals can lose!
