The version of Buster Douglas that dethroned Tyson versus the versions of the following fighters that Marciano faced.
    Louis
    Mathews
    Walcott 2
    Charles 1
    Charles 2
    Lastarza 2
    C*ckell
    Moore
    15rds
    How does he do?

I think Moore and Walcott1 would beat him.

Charles ? I'm not sure he had enough legs left at that point to implement an advantage over someone Douglas's size.
Charles of 1950, yes. Charles who faced Marciano in '54, no.

For all his shortcomings, James "Buster" Douglas was actually a fairly solid heavyweight. He was unduly billed as a "bum" going into the Tyson fight and most likely because he was given horrendous odds. But the fact is he was a top 10 ranked contender for the better part of four years, had already challenged once for a world title and had beaten men such as trevor Berbick, Greg page, tex Cobb, Oliver McCall and dion Simpson. He also gave a prime Tucker a good fight for most of 10 rounds. At 29 years of age, 6'4", 230 lbs, he was very much a well rounded contender in his prime with quality experience. It's not out of the question that he could have beaten most or all of Marciano's opponents but my guess is that he'd triumph over "most" of them while dropping losses to one or two.. This is all based of course on him showing up like he did in some of his better outings and not like he did against Holyfield.

So the 231lbs Douglas who beat Tyson was identical to the 246lbs one who faced Holyfield?

I don’t buy Tokyo Douglas, but even if he existed, we are effectively saying “what if this highly inconsistent fighter was somehow consistent?”

We are saying/asking, or at least I am ,that on his best night , how would Douglas do against the names concerned?
I don't see the difficulty, but I'm not in the least surprised you do.

If I wanted to match the best Mike Spinks against various opponents ,would I choose the one that Tyson destroyed ,or the one that beat Holmes?

The Ali that fought Young ,or the one that beat Williams?

Douglas actually looked pretty good against Berbick.. While it's true that trevor was in the twilight if his career, he was still a live opponent.. Douglas was 28 years old, a trim 226 and basically shut him out over 10 rounds.. So I don't believe that the mike Tyson fight was the ONLY evening in which Douglas showed his abilities.

You do what you want.I just made two observations.
Here's another ,if you are good enough to beat 4 men who held versions of the heavyweight title you are no bum.
