Styles favour Douglas, who was the bigger waste of talent IMO. I think he'd get his combos in, move and reset, rinse and repeat. Bowe also didn't have the speed or sneakiness to get in a punch like Tyson's.
I think Douglas's jab would cause some problems but I think Bowe is more durable and would break him down on the inside.
As much as I like Bowe Douglas on that night was special. I lean toward Douglas. Any other version and its Bowe
Bowe`s hand speed was better than Tyson`s was in Tokyo, Mike ws very sluggish that night and Bowe`s uppercuts were better than Mike`s were that night, yes Mike scored a knockdown with an uppercut when Buster overcommitted with a jab, but he only threw a handful of uppercuts all night, Bowe used to throw tons of uppercuts and hooks, he was a better inside fighter than Buster was.
It’s a question to me of styles. During the lead up to Bowe Vs Holyfield, Holyfield talked about how he’d box, find angles and he’d do this or that, but when he got hit he proceeded to start a brawl, winging ten or so punches like a mad lad. Bowe took advantage on the inside and won. Tokyo Douglas stayed on the outside and peppered Tyson with shots from range all night. When he got a little too close, Tyson hit him with quick little uppercut knocking him down. Inside, I believe Bowe would wreck Tokyo Douglas. The question then becomes can Douglas outbox Bowe, at range, over twelve rounds. The only version of Douglas that could was Tokyo Douglas as he was a wasted talent, however I think it’s closer to 50/50 than most people want to believe.
I think it would be a good fight. Bowe would have the edge if it was at close quarters as he was well polished on the inside, so Douglas would be best served to keep it on the outside. Bowe had a leaky defense, especially from the outside, so Douglas would land his share of jabs and straight rights. Bowe’s a different style of fighter than Tyson. He’s half a foot taller and had a nice jab of his own (which Tyson neglected in Tokyo and often afterwards) along with a good right hand which he could throw straight or overhand. The tactics Buster used in Tokyo would be harder to use on Bowe. I think Bowe stops him late.
If Buster fought the way he did in Tokyo, against admittedly a 60% Tyson, then he probably beats Bowe via comfortable decision or potentially even a KO. Bowe was durable but easy to hit hence the reason he never fronted up to Lewis.
Douglas would humiate bowe and knock him out. I see bowe as a really tough big powerful guy with some excellent skills. Buster also nice skillset and size. On the night he fought mike, he took his game to a level that could compete and a good chance to beat anybody, he was perfect.
