"Tokyo" Douglas takes on Holyfield

Throwing an uppercut as you're coming towards an opponent will buy you the same result every time regardless of what condition or mindset you're in.

 

Styles make fights. Holyfield beats Douglas.

 

This is a much better fight than the real one. I will take Douglas for the points win

 

Douglas still gets caught with counter shot throwing that ridiculous uppercut. However the motivation he had in Tokyo forces him to get up, survive the round and maybe last a few more. Holyfield still wins by stoppage maybe in the 7-8th area.

 

I think there's some validity to the idea that Douglas was not mentally prepared for Holyfield, and that this factored into the result. That's fair.

I don't think the motivated, in-shape Tokyo Douglas beats him though, as Holy would not waste rounds blindly walking into right hand after right hand the way Tyson did. What we saw Holyfield do against Dougles was correct and proper, bouncing in and out of range to deliver his shots, leaving Douglas reaching and lunging in a way he never had to against Tyson. Tyson made it easy for him, his head was always right there.

The only difference is that the Tokyo Douglas survives a bit longer and gets ground down in rounds 8-10, something like that.

 

I think Holyfield had his number to be honest. He assumed that he would be fighting the Douglas that beat Tyson. He knew that it might be his only chance at the heavyweight title, and he studied Douglas meticulously. It is almost a shame for him that he didn't get a better version.

 

I think Douglas could've done better against Holyfield on another given night regardless it was just a very good performance from Holyfield. No matter what I'd always pick Holyfield to win when these two fought.

 

It's shame for us too.

Vegas Douglas was grossly overweight, undertrained and just showed up for a pay check courtesy of Steve Winn who got con'ed by Douglas's handlers.....the gig was up for quite some time that Douglas did not train but they were too far into the promotion so Winn could not pull out.....Douglas ordered Pizza on fight night....

While I rate Holyfield highly for his warrior spirit he never beat a skilled big man, I am of the opinion with no fan man in the second Bowe fight where he got his second wind he would be 0-3 vs Bowe, is arguably 0-2 with Lewis. Had a hell of a time with Mercers jab at the beginning too.

Inserting Tokyo Douglas into their Vegas showdown will be a very difficult fight for Holy, the jab and movement alone will give him fits, this is the same guy who was made look bad against methusalem Holmes.....as I said, a tall skilled Heavyweight with a jab /movement will always give Holy major trouble and unless he can turn it into a brawl he is out of luck. because he does not have one punch turn a fight around power and has to grind his opponents down, he aint grinding Tokyo Douglas down because Douglas will be on the move firing and not engaging close up.

Douglas was a fluid , tall, coordinated Heavyweight with good power and above average overall technique, good footwork too. Too bad he only put it all together for one night because his problem was not his body, lol, he always had problems between his ears.

BTW, Bowe would absolutely maul Douglas and make him wilt.

Lewis never liked to be jabbed at by a big man so after a few close rounds he will bail himself out with his power, similar to the Bruno fight except it is going to be his right not the left hook.

 

Os everyone of the opinion Holyfield would NOT win without fanman?

Pizza has plemty of fat & protein, don't know if so bad for energy before a fight, especially with meat toppings...but Douglas ate too much 7 trained poorly...

HOW would turning things into a brawl, even if he could, help EH? As you say he does not have elite power, & suffered when he DID this against sluggers, even with all his heart & PEDs. Against Tyson he knew to hold a lot & use his clinching strength.

 

Holyfield would win a close, hard fought decision.
