It's often been said that the Tokyo Douglas would have been a match for most top heavy s on that day. How would a fully fit, motivated buster do against this foreman. Foreman in the last fight before his retirement losing to young. Could Douglas go better and stop George?
I believe Douglas would outbox Foreman. He may get hurt and perhaps clubbed to the ground but Buster was able to dig deep for whatever reason in Tokyo. Couple that with the possibility that Big George was diminished some at least mentally I think Douglas wins a decision. He was bigger, faster and the better boxer. Edit: as far as stopping him it depends on the conditions. I think Foreman was still pretty tough but fatigue may be the culprit.
My gut instinct is to take Douglas over that confused and heat prostrated version of Foreman. But my intuition reminds me that Douglas wasn't as durable or difficult to hit as jimmy young was. And despite winning, Jimmy got hurt in that fight. I believe I read somewhere that he said George hit him with a shot that practically had him out on his feet but was saved by the bell. For now I'll go with Douglas by a decision or late stoppage again over THAT rendition of George, but wouldn't have the confidence to place a wager on it.
Would be a tough fight for both men I think. Foreman was as usual still dangerous even though not at his best,Douglas would have to be his very best cos against George u make a mistake and your in trouble. I think this buster would start off pumping the jab out, moving, throwing the right hand s over catching George quite a bit. George would be frustrated against this Douglas and surprised how good he is. As the rounds go on Douglas gets more confident whilst foreman is getting wilder with his shots. If this fight took place in pr then going to the last round s both men would be tired and weary but buster s still got enough to hurt a fatigued George, maybe scoring a kd or two himself in the last rounds. At the end of the fight both guys are exhausted and Douglas wins a unanimous Dec
A really interesting match up but Foreman still wins I think. Douglas wouldn't be able to establish the jab like he did against Tyson due to not having the height nor a 12" reach advantage over George like he had on Mike. Douglas wasn't as elusive as Young, nor did he have as good a chin. Douglas would have some success because that George under Gil Clancy had abandoned his normal destructive style in favour of a more measured box/puncher style which he wasn't that good at executing. Buster would land plenty of jabs and some hard rights but he couldn't establish the rhythm he did against Tyson because George would be landing his own ram rod jab as well mixed with some thudding rights to the body and head. Eventually George will land something huge and Douglas wont recover being battered to the canvas for a KO or hammered on the ropes for a TKO around round 5-6.
