That account makes it sound like he threw the fight. In reality, Tyson timed him with a perfect left hook when Tony's guard lowered for a millisecond.
I find that hard to believe, since the $50k bonus was part of the story in all the newspapers for a good 2 weeks before the fight. Maybe there's more to it, as you say, but every fat boy has an excuse.
Well, Tubbs did literally walk into Tyson's punch. Tyson had hurt him a a couple times in the previous 30 or 40 seconds, and Tubbs rolled off the ropes after the referee had break them and he just walked into Tyson. I think he was seriously disoriented before that final punch. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygmWtYXFHJg&feature=related[/ame]
Douglas was 15 pounds heavier against Holyfield. Tubbs went into his next fight after Tyson 4 pounds lighter.
What does that prove ? Interestingly, boxrec has him listed as 228 in the fight prior to Tyson. Not sure if that's accurate though. 228 was a pretty good weight for Tubbs, should have been that against Tyson, or even a bit less. The biggest fight of his life.
Its a conspiracy! I dont know what it proves, nothing really. I doubt he trained harder after the letdown against Tyson. Im sure Ferrigno had him bulked up a bit if he was training with him. Muscle is heavier than cheeseburgers and chili dogs. He didnt look rolly polly against Tyson just round. I still think and I know you do too, Douglas didnt take his fight with Holyfield very seriously.
Yeah, nice spin. Very creative. It was muscle ! :rofl Tubbs was a lost cause, conditioning-wise, almost his whole career. Tyson fight was typical of that. I doubt he trained much. He looked at the payday and had one foot in retirement as soon as he signed the contract. Still, Holyfield's brilliance shouldn't be discounted as to why Douglas was SO ineffective.
Lets go back in time. Tubbs was twisted steel and geri curl sex appeal. He would have wiped the floor with the Douglas of the Holyfield fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9cdzneJb5U[/ame]
Is that what you guys are arguing about... clearly Tubbs was better then the Douglas that fought holy... Douglas was out of shape, and got thorougly outboxed and dominated.. Tubbs was round but still got some nice punches in through tyson's guard. I would also take tubbs by desicion against that Douglas. Tokyo douglas is different
When Tubbs took off his robe, I was like "Wow ! Look at this kid !" just like he said he'd be. If anything Tubbs might've OVERtrained. His physique was insane. And those weren't gheri curls, that was greased lightning. NO ONE could have beaten that version of Tubbs, except a prime Tyson (aka PRIME INVINCIBLE TYSON with added Rooney)
bum?? douglas had his failings but one of them was not a lack of talent. trust your eyes. bums dont hook off the jab, school and knockout unbeaten undisputed champions.
