Douglas wasn't a bum.. he was just inconsistent... he made a great challenger for the title, but I guess he just dint have the heart to get back in shape and defend the title.. To me, he was a lot of wasted talent.. and could certainly give holy all he could handle
Its really as simple as that. Douglas vs Tyson stood and fought strictly within the criteria of plan A........there was nothing that Tyson did or could do that would make Douglas have to adjust to anything he did. Douglas simply jabbed, smothered Tyson's shots when he got close, and pushed off with his strenghth tossing Tyson a back several feet everytime they were close. ......vs Holyfield, Douglas found himself in deep water from the opening bell when Holyfield came out outjabbing him. ......this very fact put a wrench to Douglas' gameplan, and he could'nt adjust, which is something Douglas never had to do all during the Tyson fight. Holyfield beats any version of Douglas. The Douglas that beat Tyson likely gives Holyfield a better test, but he'd get taken apart regardless. Douglas just is'nt in Holyfield's league when it comes to the mental side of the game, and it would surely be his undoing against Holyfield who was one of the better mentally tough fighters of all time.
the thing is the proof is in the scales. Tyson fans excuse his loss to douglas over his poor prep but his weight was good, lighter than against tucker and tyson himself admits he was as well prepared as he had been for most of his title fights. tyson looked like he wanted to be there, he simply became discouraged and at a loss to know what to do when it wasnt going his way. when douglas fought hollyfeild not only did he look like he didnt want to be there his weight was far too heavy, he looked poor and was poor, he basicly did not turn up.
XPERT Post m8. deal Weighin' Scales at teh weight-in are proof Tyson trained Xtremeley HARD for Douglas - same goes for teh Holyfeild fight!! This content is protected This content is protected Tyson look in PEAK shape in them 2 pics IMO. :deal
we already known tyson usually shows up in great shape. he just wasn't mentally prepared and underestimated douglas and holyfield. simple as that. the combinations weren't there, or the speed or the head movement. obviously.
he was never mentaly prepared for a 50-50 war. teddy atlas albeit bitter about tysons sucsess always said tyson did not have the character to dig deep and allowed himself to be discouraged. he should have won, clearly tyson is a great fighter but he always lacked mental strength when things did not go his way.
Douglas also beat a former World Champion and a future world champion -If we start to call him Tokyo Douglas. we should start to call Bowe Holyfield I Bowe, as that was by far his best performance, rather than the implication that Bowe was a great fighter all his career.
I would agree. neither bowe or douglas were great fighters all their career. they both shone in one great fight each. bowe was bankroled as a future champ from the begining so on paper his early record reads beter than buster who was matched up on a shoe string budget. both failed apallingly after one night as a great fighter.
Bowe lost one fight his entire career, Douglas lost 6 times. Bowe performed pretty dam good in all three fights with Holyfield with exception to the last although he still won. Bowe never showed the quit in tough fights that Douglas showed. Love the description of why Bowes early resume looks better.:happy What a load of crap.
Holyfield by KO, although later in the fight. But Evander was too tough, too busy, too fast, and too skilled for Buster, who I still feel caught Tyson on the right night, which made Buster look twice as good as he really was.
Well, I like Holyfield, so long as Holyfield doesn't come up with some sort of health issue; but those things seemed a few years into the future. This would probably be a good fight; I just think Holyfield would be in a whole different league of resourcefulness than the Tokyo Tyson, enough to make the difference in outcome.
