Arguably the two greatest heavyweights since Holmes - Tyson and Lewis - were unexpectedly taken to hell at the peaks of their prime (which lasted considerably longer for one) by opponents who at the time weren't on anybody's radar (each for different reasons) . One lost, while the other hung on to win. In both cases the end result was almost overshadowed by the shock of these underdogs fighting up to the level of the legend across the ring (again - almost...as of course, the end result in one was immune to overstatement or overshadowing) These unlikely overachievers gave memorable lifetime performances against the best they'd ever face - performances with which their very names are inextricably tied. Much has been made of the h2h capability of these lightning-in-a-bottle versions of two otherwise ignored heavies (one especially). My question is - what if you could pit those two performances against one another (but keep both men equally as motivated)? They're pretty close in size, and both very skilled heavyweights.
Tyson And Lewis were definetly both 100% at the PEAKS of their Prime, you v.right m8. :thumbsup IMO Tyson had a LONGER Peak then Lennox! Tyson - 1986 to 1990 = 5 year Peak Lewis - 1997 to 2000 = 4 year Peak ANYWAY - Lewis Decisioned Mavrovic And Douglas KTFO Tyson. Proofs who teh better fighter at their PEAK was [LENNOX]. :deal Foreman Hoooook! :hat
really i am very boring to read "tokio" douglas.... tokio douglas was the same buster douglas, the same bum that he was always !!!! he did beat a tyson(very bad mentally). holyfield destroyed douglas. it is a joke. old foreman in 1990-91 would have destroyed douglas. "tokyo" douglas is an invent to the tyson´s fans to excuse his defeat
I dont really call Mavrovics running for 12 rounds, memorable. Thats like saying Camacho gave a memorable performance against Chavez. Mavrovic was there to survive.
Quite the opposite. You'll find most Tyson fans will credit anything BUT Buster's performance as the mitigating factor in Mike losing. Also, he was demonstrably better that night than any other of his career. Of course, the degree to which he was better has taken on mythical proportions in most circles (including here on ESB Classic) - but that man on that night was a very capable h2h force. I actually expect a lot of unimaginative automated responses - from generally high-quality posters, too - with the poll becoming lopsided in Buster's favor and people just blurting out "Douglas KO" without actually thinking about the individual styles match-up.
Seriously how was it memorable? He won maybe a couple rounds? Putting yourself in a position to win would be memorable. There really is no comparison to Douglas performance.
