I think that Tim Witherspoon and Mike Tyson took care of our Inquiring minds.

Tokyo Douglas was a superb, complete Heavyweight. Frank is out speeded, out footworked and out hit.
Douglas in 6, horribly one sided rounds.

I think we could divide his five losses to those four into two groups: Smith and Spoon and Tyson and Lewis.

Not really Billy. Frank didn't ever do well in a real fight. He didn't lack courage or heart, just the ability to handle the situation.

I agree. However, I still maintain what I said, because: he lost to Smith and to Spoon cuz he lacked stamina primarily. Smith and Spoon just weren't throwing, each for approximately 10 rounds, and Bruno was hurt, but also tired, and just didn't have the stamina to make it. In the Tyson and Lewis fights, which didn't go too far, was cuz he was trading fairly hard with guys he couldn't keep up with. That was due to chin rather than stamina. All things being said, I can see how you're being an Englishman as well would cloud your judgment.

Bloody cheek ! The point I was trying to make was that, against Lennox, Frank was worked out, timed and taken.
Nowt to do with getting banged or tying up.

It is funny how people believe just because Douglas beat Tyson that night that means he could beat anybody that night. Tyson and Bruno had two different styles. Tyson was clearly a better fighter than Bruno. But just because Douglas could out box a shorter Mike Tyson doesn't mean he could out box a much bigger Bruno.

That being said Douglas was doing well against Tony Tucker and Oliver McCall. So clearly he could beat Bruno.

Spot on. Douglas didn't have a promotional/managerial machine like some fighters do (Tyson, AJ, DeLaHoya, etc). His early record shows this. After the Tucker fight (which Douglas was doing well in until the stoppage) Douglas was making the rounds on the King cards. And he looked pretty good in these fights beating decent heavyweights in McCall and Berbick. Williams was being groomed to possibly be a Tyson opponent and Douglas beat the brakes off of him.

King card Douglas was better than Witherspoon. So I believe he beats Frank Bruno too.

anyone doubting this needs to make the comparison between Witherspoon and Douglas against the same guy around the same time. Against Mike Williams Douglas was on another level to Witherspoon.

on that basis, Douglas whips Frank.

I recommend people make decisions on Douglas worth after watching Witherspoon agaibsr Mike Williams>

The only thing that makes me think Bruno has a chance is the way Douglas folded after a hard right from Tucker in the 10th round.
It was actually a Bruno-esque ending. The kind of sudden meltdown we expect from Bruno.
And I don't buy into "Tokyo Douglas", I think any Douglas from around 1986 to 1990 was about the same, it just happened that Douglas used his skills, height and reach to crack the Tyson style.
Douglas from 1980 to 1985 was a different fighter, coming up from journeyman level to fringe contender, losing a few along the way, but from 1986 he was a solid contender.

Douglas was better than Bruno though. Better skills, much better.
