Told ya walters wasn't much good

How did that fight end a draw? WTF? Sosa was game but Walters seemed to be winning 4-5 rounds straight before I had to go. Simply landing the cleaner shots and hurt sosa a couple times. Walters outlanded sosa by 100 punches and 45% connect??

 

I always thought Nicholas Walters was overrated actually. He beat a smaller Donaire who was only a shell of himself.

 

Idiotic thread, Walters beat the snot out of Sosa. Disgraceful verdict.

 

Sorry to burst your bubble; I know you went to a lot of bother waking up and checking BoxRec this morning, but if you had actually watched last night you'd know the draw (and especially the score for Sosa) was ridiculous. Walters pitched a shutout.

 

It was actually a fairly impressive performance, I thought he looked good against a tough, game guy.

 

Just because Lomachenko would more than likely beat him, doesn't mean Walters isn't much good. What are you saying, that Lomachenko ain't that good either? Or are you saying Lomachenko is so good he'd school him? If it's the latter then you can't say Walters isn't any good, only that Lomachenko is a P4P great. And we knew that anyway....

 

Walters problem is that while HBO and Donaire apologists exaggerate his size, he isn't very big. Walters is 5'7. People are acting like he is 5'10 or 5'11, and while his power is good for 126, moving up to 130, he still can hit, but he doesn't have that type of advantage anymore, bigger guys will likely take a better shot.

As far as last night. HBO's commentary was atrocious. I haven't seen them so biased in a long time, and it really sucks to hear Kellerman tow that HBO line. I know they are in the Walters business now, but no way in hell was that fight a blowout. The judges that had it a draw, were about right. The HBO crew Bernard included were ignoring damn near all of Sosa's work. I thought Walters won more clear rounds than Sosa, but there were many rounds where you wouldn't go wrong giving it to either guy. I don't have an issue with the draw.

Arum needs to realize that Walters isn't a 5'10 boxer. He is only 5'7. Get him a nutritionist and get him back down to 126. Walters is still improving, you can see that every time out. His defense is better, his accuracy needs work though. They'd be wise to match him properly though. Put him in showcase type fights. You put him in with guys who have a little defense, skill and talent, like the guy last night, and Walters will have a long night every time out.

 

I think Loma vs Walter's is a pickem. Loma doesn't hit as hard as the last two guys Walter's faced, and he has also been matched soft with smaller bums.

 

The people tauting his power and size are mostly Nonito Donaire apologists. You would think Walters was the Thomas Hearns of 126 the way they talk. He isn't though. He is only 5'7. And so what he outweighed Donaire three or four pounds when they fought. Donaire at 5'6 had three inches, and 17 pounds on Rigondeaux when they fought.

I think Walters vs Loma is a pickem. Walters has been facing better opposition then Loma. Loma has been getting fed babyfood since he got mugged by Salido. Walter's is Loma's size, and still improving. I'd like to see the fight. Hopefully they can get it done.

To give em all to Walter's is prejudiced towards his WHOLLY UNPROVEN POWER at LW.
Sosa was UNPROVEN in terms of CV, but his last 13 wins were by KO, and the judges may have considered him the bigger puncher at the weight, who knows...

Just saying....wasn't a one sided affair your making it out to be.

I'm not a fan of Walters but he looked good last night. He lacks power at 130 but overall he's a good fighter.

Sosa is solid and was very game and I hope he lands more tv spots in the future. Not a great fighter but decent enough to go with his style to make for fun fights if matched right.

The decision was unbelievably bad, I gave Sosa 1-2 rounds. Fight should be on the shortlist for worst decision in years.

 

Yeah, I definitely think that Walter's weight cutting and size advantage had a lot to do with his results. He was just too big and strong for the little guys he was fighting. When he moves up and starts fighting guys who are more his size and who are also cutting some weight to be in that division his advantages are diminished.

 

That fight was very close, a draw is fair. If you listen to HBO commentary and compubox bs then you'd think the decision was shocking, if you actually paid attention to the fight and ignored reputations you'd see it for what it was. Good job by the judges.
And yes Walters is obviously overrated, at 126 his best wins were 122 fighters. He suddenly couldn't make 126 anymore when the Loma fight was planned, that wasn't a coincidence. People have their heads in the sand if they think otherwise.
