Throw the Dempsey of the Willard fight in against the Toney of the Jirov fight for 12 rounds.

Who comes out the winner... and why? Put your heavy brains together and splain yourself.

I'm going with Dempsey to outwork Toney for a UD 12. Probably something similar to the Gibbons fight. Dempsey wouldn't punch himself out early and would break Toney down with body shots and keep in his face the whole time and set the pace. Something Toney doesn't like.

You kknow, the reason Toney went to the ropes was because guys would walk straight to him throwing punches. This he sets the pace and gives himself a ton of counterpunching opportunity. Without the tdouble of fainting and such.
No idea of Dempsey would fall for that.

Dempsey would outwork him, land everywhere including arms, neck, etc. and win UD.

Toney would absolutely school Dempsey making him miss then smashing him with the right hand counter and uppercuts inside.

Dempsey would beat Toney up pretty good I think.
Too busy, too much firepower, too much speed.
Jirov landed his fair share. Flat-footed Toney trying to be cute, rolling with head shots, ducking forward to smother heads shots, and taking body shots square on the arm, shoulder and in the sides ... not really plausible strategy against Dempsey.
Toney wasn't as slick as some people think, which partly explains why he's more obviously brain damaged than most of his peers.

Actually having just re-watched the first 3 rounds of Toney-Jirov, I think Toledo Dempsey would have got him out of there real quick.
Toney does a lot of posing, his footwork is mostly dreadful, he tries to fight in short bursts, missing shots, he looks fat round the middle (probably fatter than he was at 217 against Holyfield ... the power of steroids for you.) , he gets hit plenty.
Dempsey would brutalize him. Run him over. No way was that Toney equipped to beat any sort of ferocious cruiserweight. Jirov was a methodical type, no force of nature.
Above 160-168 Toney gets very overrated, some people way too impressed with contrived "slickness", showy posing.

Dempsey went out and shot his wad in the first against a very static, very slow and slow witted (in boxing terms) target. Toney isnt gong to stick his chin out and receive that sort of damage.

What happens when Dempsey gets tired, and Toney hasnt received such damage? Willard was able to some good work in the 2nd and 3rd before the injuries caught up to his old body.

Going out apesh#t against Toney is a really bad idea.

I think Dempsey wins on points.

If he fights smart, he probably does.

If he fights like Toledo, he probably doesnt.

I think it is safe to assume that he would employ common sense in choosing his strategy.

The way he fought Gibbons, I see no way Toney can overcome thay strategy.

The Fat Willie Meehan fights give me doubts about Dempsey's chances.

What way is that? Landing a few dozen low blows and hiring your old room mate to referee the bout?

I think Dempsey hurts Toney early and often and either wins by decision or stops him with a body punch, especially if they are fighting under the rules in force during the Willard fight.
