I think you're right, Benico Del Toro would be the best choice to play Duran.

I also like the prospect of a movie about Duran being made, only I would have preferred a documentary.

    sk,

Del Toro's a brilliant actor, but how does a guy listed anywhere's between 6'2" and 6'4" play 5'7"?

You have a good point, but it wouldn't be that much of a problem. Arnold Swarzaennger never looked 6'2 in his movies but that was because of all of his co stars were bigger. They could do the same thing.

I don't think gael garcia Bernal would make a good Duran. He's a superb actor, but not for this role. As far as Tom Cruise goes, they'd be better off hiring Jay Hernandez or Wilmer Valderrama. Ideally he should be played by an unknown.

A younger Mel Gibson would be better as Duran than Cruise, provided they had lots of tall actors around. Cruise is insane, but in a gay way; Gibson is insane in a Duran way.

Surely, with all the Latinos in the States, there must be an English speaking actor who could do the job suitably. If there's a need for a star, then it should be in a supporting role ie. manager/trainer/opponent.

Hmmm... Will Smith as Sugar Ray Leonard? :think

Al Pacino in his younger days would have been tailor made to play Duran.

I agree; they don't look particularly alike, but Pacino could get the personality of Duran perfectly I think.

there is a british actor called Nigel Harman who could really play duran well. He would need to get a tan but he is great at playing duran type charcters

    He was excellent in eastenders
